Per Wagner via twitter, Chris Nell (DOB 1994) has verballed to BGSU....

WELCOME TO THE NEST!! :supz:
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Not exactly seeing why we need another goalie... Especially grabbing one this quick. We have two on the team (assuming we keep Zacharias on the roster), and two coming through the system. I guess we want a wide variety of goalies to choose from when replacing Hammond after this year.

Judging from his stats in juniors and the fact Zacharias only has one year left I'd wager Nell will be taking his spot as the third string guy in 2014. Unless Zacharias is graduating a year early in which case next year makes perfect sense.

He did put up good numbers in high school (http://www.chicagosteelhockeyteam.com/r ... hris-nell/) although Wisconsin is hardly the high school hockey hot bed that Minnesota is.
I love people who can laugh at themselves. It saves me the effort.

I saw his numbers from High School, they were fantastic, but his numbers in the Juniors are not too hot. I guess we always need a backup, but not really seeing why we chose him. When are we getting Tom Sholl? Won't that be a couple years?

Thomas Sholl comes in next year. This new goalie will likely be the second backup and won't come in until 14-15

Does anyone know who we have red-shirted this year? I thought we had a goalie, but I could be totally wrong. I didn't know we were getting Sholl next year though, that is a relief knowing we have someone coming to replace Hammond. Burke is a great goalie, but I don't know if he is consistent enough to be a starter. Coaches will have some tough decisions to make though.

Wyatt Galley left school over the summer.

Burke is perfectly capable of playing at this level. I would almost argue that he was more consistent than Hammond during the first half of the season.
