If the NCAA (via legal action and intimidation) can force North Dakota to drop their "Fighting Sioux" nickname because they consider it "hostile and abusive"...why has there never been any suggestion that they might go after Notre Dame?
the UND nickname fight is rooted in tribal politics, which isn't something that exists with persons of irish decent. or at least the irish tribes don't care about the name, lol.
FSU cleverly got approval from the seminole tribe for use of their nick, so there is no issue down there.

UND had the name "given" to them in an actual Tribal ceremony back in the 60's or 70's. Should not have been a problem for them to use it.....but that's for a different thread.

since there are a number of sioux tribes, would be interesting to know who "gave" the use of the name...
the NCAA would have allowed continued use of the name if the Standing Rock tribe had given approval, but they didn't. (The Spirit Lake tribe did.) http://nickname.und.edu/logo/?page_id=503#b6
interesting that the NCAA granted exception to Central Michigan to continue using their nickname.

The local Saginaw Chippewa tribe is very closely involved with CMU and does a presentation at freshman orientation on what it means to be a Chippewa and how students can respectfully honor that tradition. The students and administration are very proud of the fact that they DON'T denigrate the tribe with stereotypes.
I love people who can laugh at themselves. It saves me the effort.
It's good to see he's well enough to dress. I'd still like to see Burke start this both games this weekend. We all know how ND likes to play....
I was kind of thinking the same thing... More than anything, I want home ice so that Hammy can play AT HOME before his BG career is over. It was so sad not seeing him play on Senior Night after all he's done for us these last four years!!
GO FALCONS!!!
BEAT THE IRISH!!!!
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second." ~~USCHO Poster "BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got." ~~USCHO Poster, AFTER Tech beat us #NeverGiveUp

The game is on a free live feed on the Notre Dame site. It's kind of crappy feed because it keeps buffering. We did a refresh after it kept getting hung up and that seemed to help, though it still "stutters" a bit.
GO FALCONS!!
BEAT NOTRE DAME!!
