Calling out the Animals!!!

Post by Tricky_Falcon »

Exploit some traditions at the games. Create something new!

I think the Anderson Animals should come up with something unique start a tradition that when people think of this they think of Bowling Green. Kansas has the Rock Chalk Jayhawk chant, Duke has the Cameron Crazies in general.

We need to somehow exploit a tradition, something that basically all of the student section can be a part of, not just the front row. As of now the student section is known for a few drunks in the front that create attention to police. I think it would be awesome just to create a presence not just in Anderson but also do this at the Doyt. I think it would also create a buzz and in result more students coming out to the game. Yes it helps to have a good product on the court/field but at a lot of campus', sporting events are just social events to many. And creating something that is the "in" thing to do would bring more people out to the games.

Sorry this is pretty vague but heck if the Animals start something up this vague thing could turn out to be pretty huge and continue for many many years...

This is something I've actually been thinking about. Student sections are great when they are loud and crazy the whole game. You mentioned Kansas and Duke as they have 2 of the best nationally known ones. Then there's Pitt. and it's Oakland Zoo. Even WMU went and formed "The Zoo" a few years back. I've actually talked to students from all of these places trying to get ideas and I've come to realize we need something original. I'm still pondering but what ideas do you have??

Too bad we don't have a unique, fun, energizing, fight song to sing/chant during the games. . . .

I'm hoping that's sarcastic cause I love our fight song and always sing the words to it!!!

Offff couuuurrrseee it was sarcastic. Our Ay Ziggy Zoomba is great and very comperable to the Rock Chalk cheer. I love when the band stops while play resumes and the fans contiue singing till the end of the verse.

I also like the Forward Falcons fight song and am a bit annoyed that the Cheerleaders have added chanting "BGSU" at the end- instead of singing the words to forward falcons they just smile and add BGSU at the end.

As for things the Anderson Animals do- I like when the people jump up and down and do the Ohhhhhhh while the other team has the ball, I like rattling the keys when the game is not in question (final minute or so), what about making some signs to hand out with 3 on them to hold up when we hit triples? I like those things and on the back could be this web address and or info. on how to "become" an ANderson ANimal... a little guerrilla marketing that would add to the experience.

Something original .... copy the coach.

Dakich rallied his troops back in 2001 by pulling a Kriss-Kross and wearing his suit coat backwards. I think BG won its next eight games after he did it. Got a lot of press too, including a New York Time article. Why don't you crazy cats wear your rally suits, throw your shirts and brawls on backwards. That's something.

I loved the look on the opposing coaches faces when he'd walk out and go shake their hand. They usually had no idea why his jacket was backwards but it waas a fun time. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that originated because he wanted to turn things around.

That's one of my favorites but I can't really jump up and down yet :D We were doing the Ohhhhh thing everytime the opposing team crosses half court during the women's game before the turdledo game. Our voices were almost shot so we didn't continue during the men's game. I think that worked well though because the opposing team is down by us during the first half and our ladies took a huge lead early. I'd like to think we had an effect on the score :D

I think my favorite moment of that whole escapade was when we were playing Miami at home and Charlie Coles came out of the tunnel wearing HIS sport coat backwards!!

Anderson Arena will forever love Charlie Coles!!

Here's my idea.....I think we should name the whole student section something, and Include Dakich's name. Michigan State has the IZZONE, Duke has Kryzewskiville, and a few years ago when Lefty Drisell was still coaching, the student section at Georgia State was Lefty's Loonies. There are more that escape me right now. Keep the Anderson Animals and Sideline Squad within this, but if we give the whole student section a Dakich themed name, every student that may not go to every game will have something to identify if they aren't an Animal or a Sidliner. Anyone have any clever names that include either Dan or Dakich???

As far as something to chant goes along the lines of Kansas' ROCK CHALK.....we already have something great with AY-ZIG....we just need to get ALL the students to sing it when the band plays.

And if we get a catchy name, we could get the athletic department to make up shirts to sell in the union/have a t-shirt giveaway at a game to make sure as many students at possible you have them. You look around the nation, and alot of student sections have each and every student wearing the same shirt, and it looks amazing.

Here is my idea for a name. We can call the student section in ALL of our athletic venues the "Aviary." With cool signage and marketing the students will know where all of our birds of a feather can flock together :D

I always liked the "bounce" "bounce" chants...

Motion behind the backboard...

I never understood why the chants at the ice arena never made it over to Anderson Arena...

I dont think Anderson needs to change thier name... rather just get those students rows up the entire game, and get chants going all game long...

The falcons play it the house that roars...my redhawks plays in the house that snores...
