Re: BG vs CMU - MAC tournament quarterfinals
I don't think anyone is "satisfied" with not making the NCAA tournament but, despite recent struggles, it looks like we are going to play postseason basketball. It's not where we want to be, but it's better than nothing.

Who do y'all want to win the tourney? I like Ball State because they've come so far through their injuries, and the players that have left the team. At some points in the season they basically had 7 healthy players. I have a hard time rooting for the CMU thugs, but then I have an even harder time rooting for the school up north. (Though to be fair, Naama probably deserves a chance at the NCAA). And Buffalo, well they broke Lex's nose twice. Akron, meh, I'd be cool with them I suppose (Buffalo/Akron is not over yet, at time of posting).
Re: BG vs CMU - MAC tournament quarterfinals
I hate to say this, but this type of loss sort of epitomizes the entire year to me. There was very little about this season that was a typical BGSU women's basketball season. The team was very inconsistent, won a few games in impressive fashion, but lost far more they should not have lost...some in ways that we simply haven't seen in BG for a long, long time.
This coaching staff has its work cut out for it. Roos has a lot to prove in the off season and next year to show us that she is the right person for this job. I'm not saying she isn't...I'm just saying when a team plays as inconsistently and as poorly at times as this one did, you have to start wondering about the coaching its getting.

Ccollin, I don't think you have to worry about Naama, as Toledo is probably going to make it to the NCAA's regardless of whether they win the tournament or not. Even the posters on rebkell seem to be thinking that way and most of them are usually very biased against the non-power conferences.ccollin13 wrote:Better than disaster over on the men's side... sheesh. It's the Journey... wrote:I don't think anyone is "satisfied" with not making the NCAA tournament but, despite recent struggles, it looks like we are going to play postseason basketball. For reference, they are 27-2, RPI 44, SOS 218. But let's think about this. If Toledo beats CMU to get their 28th win, then turns around and loses in the MAC tournament finals...and then gets left out of the NCAAs, Toledo would tie the NCAA record for most wins in a season and NOT going to the NCAA tourney. The holder of that record? You guessed it, BGSU.

Re: BG vs CMU - MAC tournament quarterfinals
I think Roos is the right person for the job. Can't believe some of you think otherwise when she just finished her first season as head coach. Yes, there were a few games they should have won but didn't, but it happens. Every team is bound to (and does) lose games that they should have won. I think the team was caught off guard by Central playing zone the whole game. Last game they played man. Not sure if game preparation included the possibility of Central playing the opposite defense of what they played the last time these two teams met. Oh well, you live and learn, let's hope BG gets into WNIT. Will be interesting to see who they'll play if they get into it.
Re: BG vs CMU - MAC tournament quarterfinals
Reminder there is an assistant coaching job opening at BGSU for the women. I've already done my high school coaching stint so I won't be applying. Seems people at computers have answers so why not go for it?
I watched EVERY league game this season in person and have talked to the players. They have worked every day including ones we don't see, to win games and play the best they can That being said(Thanks,Jennifer) Curt made this program better & spoiled us. Well he also pissed off a lot of people/teams we play against on a regular basis. He made them get better. We must continue to grow too. People come ready to play us & it has shown in some games not in others.
People were hurt best on ball defender played 13 games Jas, Jill has broken finger on 1 hand & torn nail on other try catching & shooting a bball she did D Havel has major back issues. Call them out if you must for no fire leader or someone who can take team on their back to win games what's to say quietly they haven't but the losses are looked at more closely & analyzed.
If there's a home WNIT game, will you be at the Stroh?
I'll be at the banquet on April 14 celebrating this team how 'bout you?

Re: BG vs CMU - MAC tournament quarterfinals
I share your sentiment, BG Sue. This team has had a good year and has a lot to be proud of. I'm sure they will come out ready to play and win if selected for the WNIT. Go Falcons!

Re: BG vs CMU - MAC tournament quarterfinals
I am with you also BG Sue. You see, we have been spoiled, because BG has never had SERIOUS injuries in the Miller era. Sure, a couple of scrapes and Jess Slagle's ACL in game 21 or whatever, but even with Lo's twisted ankle, she played the next game or game after. This year, we lost a backup point guard, a recruit that may or may not have played in Hulls, and more importantly, a starting 4/5 player missed some playing time and our 2 player missed most of the season and a promising PG in Logan Pastor. Salinas probably made us forget about Noelle Yoder, but Justinger didn't make us forget Jas and Halfhill didn't make us forget Slagel. So, besides a new coach, BG had more adversity in fielding players than they have had at any time in their recent history. (sorry I missed the last 1.5 Knoblauch years and the first 3 Miller years, just as I'm going to miss the last Orr year.)
So, before we start calling for Jennifer's head, let's just enjoy the season for what it was, a truly rebuilding year, and let's see what the post season and next year brings.

Re: BG vs CMU - MAC tournament quarterfinals
Thanks HoopsFan and MACfan05 for your thoughts. HoopsFan you are correct with the injury listing Lo actually had a foot problem wore a boot all week played games but didn't practice. Jas had different injury which couldn't be handled like Lo's. Jess Slagle moved from off guard to point guard with lots of practice & hard work I see that coming for Jillian. There will be growth in all the players....even in the next few days readying for a WNIT game home (I hope) or away. Short benches make for lots of experience.
I want Jennifer's head to stay right where it is masterminding what comes next. She's a smart cookie and has put all the players to work at various times spelling the starters.
Change is the only constant.

Re: BG vs CMU - MAC tournament quarterfinals
That is what I want to see before I start questioning any coaching or the coaches, the team actually at full strength, injury wise and roster wise, which it hasn't been all yearHoopsFan wrote:I am with you also BG Sue. 1) You can't expect to step into a new position and create miracles. Does it happen? Yes. Does it happen often? No. It takes 3 years to fully make a program your own. Coach Roos has to design this program how she sees fit; and, while I would be willing to bet a lot will be drawn from Miller, there will be some things that will be her own. The first year after a beloved coach/teacher/mentor leaves and changes are trying to be implemented, there's going to be a lot of, "Well, ____ didn't do it that way."
2) Her first season as a head coach was 22-10. Keep in mind, that Miller's first season was 9-19.
I absolutely hope to be there. Haven't made it back nearly as much as I'd like to this past season.BGSUE wrote:If there's a home WNIT game, will you be at the Stroh?

Re: BG vs CMU - MAC tournament quarterfinals
Music Man, you said it perfectly. Making a program your own takes time - it doesn't happen overnight. This is what I was trying to say but in fewer words. Good point in saying what Miller's record was after his first season. I am saying I think she is the right person because so far she hasn't proven otherwise. I think we have some bitterness from Orr staying next year. Just my opinion, but you've got to give Roos time to make the program her own. No reason to bash her yet.

and by 'we' having bitterness, I am saying those who are bashing Roos.

Re: BG vs CMU - MAC tournament quarterfinals
You bunch of bleeding hearts. You think she did a good job this year?
So what that she went 22-10 in her first year as the head coach?
Who cares that BG won 20+ games for the tenth straight season?
Injuries? If she hadn't worked the kids so hard (or had only worked them harder and made them ready for more physical play), injuries wouldn't have been a concern.
Give her one more year. ONE MORE. Next year -
No 30 win season - FIRE HER!
No MAC East Title - FIRE HER!
No MAC Tournament Title - FIRE HER!
No NCAA Appearance - FIRE HER!
No Sweet 16 Appearance - FIRE HER!
No National Championship - FIRE HER!
We're BGSU! We're NO LONGER going to settle for anything shy of perfection. You can't produce, you're out of here. If she can't do it in two years, then she'll never be able to do it in three years! FIRE HER! Raise the price of tickets to cover her buyout. Raise the price of parking to cover her buyout. But we should not allow this type of MEDIOCRITY to infect our team.
Next thing you'll be saying is "Well look at the number of players that have graduated from the program since she was a part of it." You bleeding hearts. You all need to go up north to that other state and sing Kumbaya with Flipper. Everyone knows Kevin Eckert was responsible for that awesome graduation rate!
