Disappointed from what I heard today!!! Fire Orr Now
Really disappointed what I heard today from Coach Orr. Coach Orr was a guest on the Freddie Coleman show on ESPN radio. They were talking to Orr because he played at Syracuse and was an Asst Coach under Beiheim (sp). Since this is the last game for what is known as The Big East they had coach Orr on the radio. Of course the first words out of hos mouth was 'To God Be the Glory'. Anyways, during the interview he said that he would be present in Madison Square Garden in New York to watch the championship game between Syracuse and Louisville. This sickens me. He should eiter be in Cleveland at the MAC championship or out recruiting. And he was all complementary of Syracuse and said Go Orange. And that was not orange and brown. This pissed me off. If this is how he feels, then he should stay in NY

The complaints against Louis Orr are becoming a bit of a stretch. While I understand the legit complaints of why people are upset with him as a coach.... below average record, lack of attendance, lack of enthusiasm about program, recruiting etc. The complaints you listed are not the problem.
1) Orr saying "To God be the Glory" has nothing to do with BG winning or losing games.
2) Orr going to the Big East Championship in New York : Is it possible he is recruiting while out there? He might be looking for some answers/help/tips from Coach Boeheim, who has won a few games in his career.
3) He was an All-American at Syracuse, most former players probably want their alma-mater to win when they are in the conference tournament championship game. Does BG get better if he says he wants them to lose?

GMartin likes to wax hyperbole. Does he have is resume ready to send to Christopher? I admit that I am not as involved in the men's program as I am in hockey and the women's program, but we all have to remember there are many aspects of a coach's job. The biggest concern I have is the lack of student interest and support. This support lacks for the women's program as well so its not always wins and losses.

There were other parts of the interview I didn't like. He mentioned that he watched as many Syracuse games as possible this year. That he spent time during the season talking to Syracuse coaches. It rubbed me the wrong way. If you just listened to the interview and didn't know he was the HC at BG some may think he was a scout or something. Just appears he paid more attention to Syracuse this year than BG. I have nothing against Orr as a person but to me I think his first priority needs to be BG, not wondering how his alma mater is doing

I'm sure the interview was about Syracuse basketball, not BG basketball. They didn't interview him because he is BG's coach, but because of his Syracuse roots.
You need to remember the context of the interview.

Also, I don't know but it might be a quiet or dead period in recruiting.
Re: Disappointed from what I heard today!!! Fire Orr Now
Isn't this a dead period for recruiting?
He could have said, "I haven't got to see them play much this year. I've been focused on my team and trying to reach our goals. The Syracuse / Georgetown rivalry has been one of the best in college basketball. I'm sad to see the rivalry ending and the league falling apart."
I don't think I've ever heard a coach admit to just casually watching another teams (even his alma mater). They generally say, "Other than teams in our conference or teams I see on tape, I don't get to watch many other teams."
I can guarantee you Sean Miller wasn't cracking open a beer and watching Pittsburgh this year, reminiscing about the Big East.

I am convinced Louis Orr is highly allergic to Cleveland and The Q. He wants nothing to do with it or his team going there. He knows both he and his players have no business being where they don't belong.gmartin wrote:He should eiter be in Cleveland at the MAC championship or out recruiting.
GO BG!!!

Dead period??? Isn't that what we know as our regular season and short-lived time in the MAC Tournament nowadays?orangeandbrown wrote:Also, I don't know but it might be a quiet or dead period in recruiting.

Ya know, bitching about Orr is a dead end emotion. Look at it this way HE HAS NOTHING TO LOSE! He's already been fired, it's just a matter of putting up with his incompetence for 4 months beginning the end of November. Now a normal man MIGHT use that time to bone up on his resume' as in, what does he have to lose? Maybe you might see the relaxed Orr who might be able to teach and coach because he has no pressure to win ball games.
I don't expect a change in the outcome, but geeze, he has no pressure to win a single game next year.

Bingo. Like it or not, this is a profession for people with a burning desire to win basketball games and the willingness to do whatever is necessary within the bounds of the rules to make that happen.
Orr's abiding passion, admirable as it is, is not winning basketball games.

I can guarantee you Louis Orr has never gotten a $25,000 fine for poor sportsmanship and behavior on and off the court.Falcon137 wrote: I can guarantee you Sean Miller wasn't cracking open a beer and watching Pittsburgh this year, reminiscing about the Big East.
