So when you don't agree with the content you shut it down. Seems like a discussion board is the perfect place for discussion.

No, I think when everyone needs to chill out, relax, and take couple days away from a message board and do something productive thats when things need to be shut down. Hell I mean we aren't even disagreeing anymore, we all agree that Coach Orr needs to go, we are essentially arguing about how it should be talked about. Its just sports guy, not a life or death matter. I mean we have threads bashing the man for supporting his alma mater. I just think getting away for a few days or a week wouldn't hurt anyone.

The best thing about the Internet is that you can easily ignore things tap hat don't fit with your take. I think Orr should get to support cuse. S I just. Bypass that point

Thank you. By the messages I'm receiving through facebook and here I would say I have scored a direct hit. And some of these people have FAR more influence in the matters of the university and athletics than you can muster in your wet dream. Some are even from OTHER schools. Imagine that.

The theme is common: "AZZ used to be fun. Now it's just a place to complain." "I miss the wit". "What happened? There wasn't a day that went by I didn't laugh at something." Those responsible for the knowledge and wit this board was known for, have moved away because of the putrid stench which has permeated these boards for several years now. Go back and read the most recent posts on this particular board. Honestly, do you see a forum which contributes to entertainment or knowledge of BG sports? Do you, really?

But really. What happened? This board is now just a compilation of Falconboys when we had him under suicide watch during the 2006 football season. I think that was the year his measuring stick broke [or was it his scale?]

If you think I'm an ass, good for you. More intelligent people figure that out a great deal sooner.

I would recommend taking a voluntary break from this board. It might do you some good to have a time out and get interested in another hobby more to your intellect such as underwater door slamming.

Cheers, sunshine.

Good of you to support your fellow Debbie Downer, Trotter. I found this line particularly interesting in one of my messages, "I miss the old Globetrotter."

I am trying to find where you wrote that...but since you asked and this is not without over exaggeration .... I feel somewhat heart broken over this entire thing and that pissed me off when you wrote about whining over spilled milk etc. The reality is this has just been another situation where I have realized BG just doesn't matter in sports. I get really excited watching teams like Gonzaga, Butler and Akron and OU and thinking why can't we just be like them? We get a new arena that isn't without its flaws but is a nice recruiting tool and we don't take advantage of it. It would be like your company was just about to close a huge deal and they grabbed a guy who had a history of not closing deals and put him in charge. We have wasted and are wasting incredible chances to build off the momentum of a brand new arena. Students and the community are bound to be curious about the new building. When they come and there is nothing but a horrific product to watch, they are not coming back. We completely botched that. Then, last year, we had a chance to rectify it and we didn't. Then this year when it was obvious that this was the way to go....we proved that BG doesn't play by the same rules of even Ball State. Ball freakin state. When I think about this stuff it all comes down to hope for next year and hope for the future. We have absolutely squandered any momentum that would have come from the Stroh and by letting a guy who can't recruit, nab 4 more recruits we are digging our hole even further. For me when crap like this happens I feel like a little kid who just found out Santa wasn't real. I should have realized that we are just also rans that will never compete but I follow the team with the hope that we can be Gonzaga, Akron, OU, Kent. I don't have this patriotic sports fan thing that some people seem to have where they root for a team because thats where they went to school. I root for the team because it's fun to do it and thats where I went to school. I don't root for girls track or baseball or hockey because I just don't care about those sports. Its neat when BG does well in those sports but I don't really care if they don't. In basketball I care, and this kind of decision....that makes absolutely no sense economically, or from a building of a basketball program sense makes me realize just how little anyone else cares so then I question why the hell do I care. I have 0 friends outside of this board that can name a player on BG so I truly have to go out of my way to feed this interest. Why would I do that when I know 95% this team will be awful next year. Even if they are good if the last five years are any indication it will be in spite of the coach. They will have horrible rotations, bad offense, bad coaching and guys like Clarke and Holmes will never ever reach their enormous potential. Sorry for the rant and it's certainly an overexageration but just wanted to paint the picture of why this makes me so angry

I actually disagree completely with RUIT - becuse for the most part the discourse has been suprisingly civil. The vast majority of posts have said that they respect Orr as a man, even if they don't appreciate his religious remarks. Again, tge vast majority of comments have been fair - he has our team playing bad basketball in a horrible league and it's unacceptable from my point of view as an alum who actually gives a darn.
And your post came across incredibly pompous and self- righteous. The day no one cares about a lousy program and this great site won't even exist anymore - and that's my biggest fear of OUR program!!!

I have waited over 40 years to get back to the NCAA Tournament. I think I will be dead and gone before it happens again. I like the previous post pointing out the missed opportunity in the first few years of the Stroh. Coach Orr has dropped the ball but the university picked it up and gave it back to him.
I had much more fun watching the HS kids recently play there. What a great atmosphere it was - at every game. So nice the university stages the district and regional games.
FAlcon games are plain and simply not much fun. My wife usually wants to leave early due to boredom.

Except for one women's game under Knoblauch where I walked out in the middle of a game and left for about 4 1/2 years, I have NEVER walked out of a basketball game in the middle and I've missed very few home games. I was on the fire Orr bandwagon and the "I'm not coming back if he's here" crowd, but then, I got to thinking. BG basketball is my winter entertainment. I'm not there to impress anyone, I'm there to watch the young men and women who play the game grow from freshmen to seniors. Some are good, some mediocre, and some would never play for any other Division I school, but they play for OUR school and for that reason I support them. On the men's side, I saw Luke Kraus go downhill or maybe never play to his potential, Jordon Crawford placed in a role he didn't belong, James Erger never become more than a reserve player that got more playing time than he deserved, and A'uston Calhoun become a fairly decent player. I got to see flashes of greatness in Holmes, Sealey, Clarke, and Black, and not enough of Parker and Henderson to make a difference. Sure, a coaching change would breathe life into the program, but firing a "nice guy" coach who finished in the "middle of the pack" and paying him to do nothing isn't good politics in this economic climate. This is probably Orr's last D1 HC job. Our AD has about 12 months to find a replacement. We can start the countdown clock in November either 120 days, or 31 or so games to go. Since we can't do anything about the decision to fire him, there's no sense whining about it.

Although perhaps a duck call whistle for next year might be in order :-)

HoopsFan, wondering if that would get a technical

I get it and you're one of the well informed guys on the board. I like reading your posts and glean a good amount of info when I can't be at the games.

But you used to be a lot more fun around here.....even with your cockeyed politics.

When a long time member of this board can't come on here because it makes this individual "throw up" it's not that reasonable. When another person told me they "got on the bball board and jumped right back off" it isn't respectful by any measurement to what it used to be or, even, what it was MEANT to be.

You're just used to it. I have read the posts which state they respect him as a man but sadly those are blurred by the posts asking students to transfer for "their best interest."
Sure, I haven't been perfect [OHIOBOBCAT are you reading this?] over the 10-some-odd years this website has been around but it's traditionally been informative, fun, with great comradeship. There isn't much of any of that any more I that is simply something I can't tolerate. Is this truly arrogant? If it is, I'll gladly wear that moniker as a badge of courage.
Sadly, most of you won't think about what has been stated.

This is a place about the "advancement and fun of BGSU athletics". I don't see the fun.

I was probably the most idealistic one on the boards going into the season. I'm not trying to be nuts here. I really do think those guys should transfer. I try to put it in a "if it was my son" scenario. I would want him to transfer. No joke. It's a screwed up situation but I don't think its whats best for the player.

At this point I think all we have to talk about are our frustrations. I don't see the fun either, but it is good to talk to like minded peeps about it.
