One thing is for certain....
Re: One thing is for certain....
Maybe this is why Orr wasn't fired and 99% of alums over the past 10 years don't care 1 bit about BG basketball.
There are literally a few hundred people (maybe) who actually care about the product BG puts on the floor. Some go for the entertainment, some go to hang out with people, people scold other for caring to much.
The level of apathy around BG basketball is truly amazing.

Nicely stated. It's basically what I was saying in my "Lighten up Francis" response post earlier. It just sports...not life or death. Have fun with it. Losing only makes the wins that much more enjoyable. Our time will come.BGWriter wrote:I do believe this sums up most of us who post on this site. For whatever reason I have a passion for BG sports. Is it more important then my wife, hell no, but it is a passion so it is important and when I see it just explode all over itself I get upset. It's like when I saw the movie twilight, I didn't care that it was terrible. I had no connection and I assumed it would be horrible and bad. But BG reminds me of Star Wars episode 1. It could have been so great and ended up so dissapointing. Does it affect the concrete parts of my life, no, but I can still be pissed.Flipper wrote:Are sports that important...really? Porn is important...why isn't that my work?
I don't really need an answer to that
There's no rule that says you can't be extremely passionate about your hobbies or interests (like BG sports) but still maintain a strong perspective on what's most important in life.
I do not see anyone here saying that they are putting their lives ahead of their interest in BG basketball and I only see one or two posters presuming that this is the case because they (apparently) think they can discern someone's priorities from messages posted on an Internet site.
As already noted, the news that Orr would be maintained came as just one more piece of crap in a crapfest of a season (hell a crapfest of too many seasons). It struck most of us the wrong way...so we've been venting.
It tends to be what humans do. And in the Internet Age, they do it on sites like this. People who flee from this site because they find it too intense should probably find tamer topics to follow than sports.

Well, the only question left is to find out how much it costs to have your poetic waxed.

Can we give glory to things god has created and therefore indirectly give him glory. Like the band Styx is pretty awesome. I listened to them on the way to work to say.
To Styx (as created by God) be the glory.

I know I don't have a dog in this fight, except for the fact that you all are seeing what the hockey program went through three to four years ago... but that's beside the point (and ironic, in and of itself)
The bickering back and forth here is pretty ridiculous, especially the attacks and tirades (yeah I'll call em that) against student athletes is pretty sad and sorry.
RUIT posed a question to others to remember what this site was created for. Although I wasn't here for its creation, I do know the founder decently well. And I thought I would post up this article for you to read in case you didn't know.

Re: One thing is for certain....
And RUIT! Wow, right out of the blue! Hell, you haven’t posted out here in yeeeaaars, and regrettably you never did post much about BG hoops back in the day. Are you still moderator? You certainly made a big splash out here, swinging your fat one low and wide. All of the those nicknames - everybody gets their own. The single malt scotch, the name dropping (Christopher Hitchens, William Buckley, Victor Davis Hanson, etc.), and a Lake Erie State MBA to boot. Well, aren’t you just hot s**t?
BGWriter dared to call you an elitist, and he while might be out fu**ing himself sideways, I for one am glad you’re finally back. You’ve put SO MUCH of yourself into sounding intelligent, righteous, ...cocky even. Such an effort deserves acknowledgement. Oh, Bra-vo!
While you’re out here, answer this question directly. Don’t characterize it. Don’t sidestep it. ANSWER it: assuming their other affairs are in order, exactly why should talents like Clarke, Holmes, and Sealey stay and a program that a) only a few hundred people care about, b) is obviously a low priority with the university, c) is deeply underfunded for the foreseeable future, and d) and is coached by a passive, babbling religious delusional who hasn’t and won’t develop them? So you might get to see them play? So we can win 12 games rather than 8 games next year? For what? What matters is what’s in it for them as individuals, not you. Not some token college basketball program, which has a long, long way to go no matter what.
Before you attempt to recite comments from these powerful BG administrators “with more influence than I/we could muster in a wet dream (really good stuff there, bubba)” that have supposedly contacted you personally, remember this: these are the same people that have overseen and cultivated this apathy and mediocrity in the first place. So, no, you actually are not necessarily important or prestigious because BGSU adminiwizards PMed personally on this website. And no, it doesn’t matter to anyone that Facebook friends that already agree with you PMed you to urge you on. What all of this actually reflects is an impotent thimbledick who can’t stand on his own arguments, which you’ve haven’t clearly articulated. Who are you going to reference next, God? If you do, please quote him for your own credibility.
You took BGWriter’s moniker one step farther and signed off as “proud elitist”. Well, congratufuckinglations! Self appointed status. Reality knocking: you’re vapid and pompous. Mr. “Rightupinthere”, you’re posts betray a high-school kid with his pants at his knees tugging at his beads. Just pull ‘em right out of there, wash them off, and put them away, ‘cause you are nowhere-fu**ing-near as intelligent as you imagine (or ever have been). (Yes, I do realize that qualifies as name calling. So what?)
Cheers sweetie. Perhaps I've strengthened your resolve even more? Please don’t stop posting. The nicknames, self-righteousness, and cliches are fun. I’ll be around, unless of course you kick me off this board.

What happened to getting an education at a good school? Isn't that what students come to college for? Or is to play basketball first and be a student second. Or is that too cliche for you? (I'm sure there are basketball reasons in there, too, but that's not my cup o' tea)BleedOrange wrote:While you’re out here, answer this question directly. Don’t characterize it. Don’t sidestep it. You guys are really ruthless. It's sickening. Disgusting, really. I'm ashamed to even be a part of the site. With all of this name calling and banter back and forth. Nothing is civil in here. A few of you have some serious issues and it would probably do you good to take a few days off from the keyboard.

Guys...we were doing insults and anger yesterday. Today's a light day....
To God be the Glory...
Speaking of God... singer Michelle Shocked....an avowed leftist...had her mic shut off at a gig in SF when she proclaimed "God hates fags" and went off on gay marriage. Apparently she's part of some fundamentalist church in Texas. I'm to the left of Michelle Shocked on an issue? WTF?

And my point was that a student could choose to come here not just because of basketball, but for the education and the basketball....I was offering that "Whats in it for them" is the possibility of a good education... but I was just looking beyond the sports.
The point being that there is more to coming to college outside of... (shocker) athletics.
