Lets stop pretending, we all know why the thread about wanting the three transferring is up, people are afraid those three talented players will win just enough to save Coach Orr's job and get him a new contract.
One things needs to be remembered around these parts, players and parents don't think the way we the fans do. You guys really think Clarke, Holmes, and Sealy are walking around campus thinking their talents are going to be wasted next year. No, those three are thinking they are going to turn things around next year.
Players and parents aren't thinking what we thinking, and aren't thinking whats being said around these parts. If they were there would be mass transfers, and there haven't been, and I doubt there will be.

As someone who's been a decently long tenured poster here (stats say I've had the 11th most posts) it has truly made me sad to see what was once such a great site fall into a cesspool where it's acceptable to insult the student-athletes we support, question a man's religion, and find it perfectly acceptable to make personal insults to an anonymous person you've never met.
I'm not a saint. I've regretted some things I've posted and said here but I can say that I've never had the absolute hatred that I've seen typed out here. Maybe it's just a sign of the world that we live in where anonymity gives the impression of words without consequences. But, we've lost a lot of the respect and camaraderie that became a staple of this site. We'd laugh at other fan sites where this sort of thing was commonplace.
I'm not going to speak for the original founder of this site but as one of the "old-timers" coming here now makes me sad. I've met some great people on this site like Todd (toddpav), Marta and Rick, among others. I know that those people really don't visit the site anymore and these threads are a perfect reason why. I had planned on deleting my account here and soon I might. But I do believe the site can get back where it was. But, it only does that if people start being human here again.

Parents and kids are wrong. They all think they are going to the NBA. I'm not sure Sealey should transfer but Clarke and Holmes certainly should.

If you can't handle differing opinion then I suggest you don't go to a discussion board. As far as I have seen no one has made from of his religion. Just his absolute silliness of throwing out his religion every time someone puts a mic in his face. Let me ask you this. Would it be ok if he was a Muslim? Wicca? Hindu? Devil worshipper?BGDrew wrote:As someone who's been a decently long tenured poster here (stats say I've had the 11th most posts) it has truly made me sad to see what was once such a great site fall into a cesspool where it's acceptable to insult the student-athletes we support, question a man's religion, and find it perfectly acceptable to make personal insults to an anonymous person you've never met.

Having differing opinions is fine. Being an outright prick and saying something you'd never say to someone's face is just being a troll.

Where did BGDrew say anything about not being able to have differing opinion. If we had differing opinions this place would be boring, and this place is far from boring. I think his point was just because we have differing opinions on issues doesn't mean we have to come off as asses to each other just because its anonymous. There will never be 100% agreement on anything around here, we all know that, but just because someone disagrees with you doesn't you have to start a response with an insult.Globetrotter wrote:If you can't handle differing opinionBGDrew wrote:As someone who's been a decently long tenured poster here (stats say I've had the 11th most posts) it has truly made me sad to see what was once such a great site fall into a cesspool where it's acceptable to insult the student-athletes we support, question a man's religion, and find it perfectly acceptable to make personal insults to an anonymous person you've never met.

Re: One thing is for certain....
The one thing that made this site interesting was that there WAS no anonymity back in the day we all knew everybody. It was a tight knit group. We met at the spring game every year. We tailgated together every football game. We hung out at basketball games. This wasn't some anonymous message board where we bickered constantly...it was a place where we discussed BG sports with people we would all genuinely call "friends."
It's unfortunate to me that many of those old faces are no longer around. Rick & Marta still post occasionally, but probably not as much as they used to. I don't see Tech around as often. Shaden Freude is rarely seen, which is a shame considering he had the greatest username in message board history. Grant has pretty much moved on. Jacobs4Heisman has been gone for awhile. The most depressing part of the thread no our NCAA tourney drought was seeing a Bleeding Orange post and realizing I haven't seen him in YEARS.
It does make me a bit sad that so much of the "old guard" has either moved on or grown disgusted of the site and stopped posting. I apologize profusely if any of my comments over the years were part of the reason for it. Unfortunately, this site has evolved from a tight knit group of friends to just another faceless sports message board. I don't know that it's any worse than any other sports message board, but it pretty much is just another sports message board now. As somebody who frequents sports message boards, I guess I've been less inclined to move on than some of the rest of the old guard...I don't mind the message board banter. But there is no denying that this place is vastly different than it was back then.

I for one have not grown disgusted of this site. I have, however, grown disgusted with the product that we throw out and call a basketball team. We could solve all the bitching and complaining on here by putting out a quality product that we didn't have so much to be frustrated with. It's not that the site is cantankerous. The basketball team has made posters cantankerous.

I assure you, as somebody who has continued to buy season tickets and attend a good 90+% of home games, I have grown as disgusted by our basketball program as anyone. It really hits me because I've also grown disgusted of college football in general, so even though BG is pretty good now I just don't find myself caring about it so much anymore.Warthog wrote:hammb wrote:It does make me a bit sad that so much of the "old guard" has either moved on or grown disgusted of the site and stopped posting.

I agree the site isn't really any different than other sports message boards. I do think it's different from what it used to be, though. I don't necessarily think that is a good or a bad thing, but it is definitely different.

Not disgusted with the site either. More disgusted with holier than thou attitudes of some of the people on it. Not really sure what people are so upset about. The athletic department made one of the silliest decisions I have seen in sports. I would hope that fans would have a negative reaction.
The one thing that I don't really like is how its become ok to bash Kraus and Erger as non D1 athletes. At first that felt gross but its so regular for me (and so spot on IMO) that it wore me down. I can see arguments about that one. There isn't anything else on this board that I think is really that bad.

Re: One thing is for certain....
I think the tone here is angrier than it used to be...and I don't think it's attributable just to struggles of the basketball team. We had a lot of angst during the footbal season in that forum while we were winning and playing a really fun brand of football.
I think people are just mad in general...the economy has been sluggish, the political climate has been taken over by hacks on both ends who keep stirring the pot because that's how they get paid...hell the hottest trend in entertainment is the zombie...think about that, flesh eating undead creatures roaming the landscape looking to feed on the living are the new cultural icon.
It's kinda f**ked up....
