I really wonder what exactly President Mazey and the board of Trustees will be looking for in a new AD. Last time around it was expertise in fundraising and event management. I wonder if this time around it will be an AD with proven expertise in running top tier (compared to the conference) athletic programs since we've now got the conference's top student athlete workout center and top basketball arena. Exciting and challenging times ahead!

I'll pose the question here since, this was posted on the basketball board.

What does this mean for Orr's future? Perhaps why he wasn't fired.

I believe it to be a reason why he wasn't fired. As I said in another thread no need for an outgoing AD to hire someone he never sees coach here, and if you are out a basketball coach and AD you are going to fill the AD spot first, and thus be behind in hiring a new basketball coach, unless you go the way of an interim coach next season.

JPFalcon brought up a great point on the football forum. Perhaps a large reason why Orr was given another year was this was on the horizon. If a new AD walked in and had to hire a basketball coach on day 1 of the job, that's a problem. Even worse could be if GC picked a new basketball coach to replace Orr, then the new guy had to inherit a coach he did not hire and with expectations and hiring considerations and a working relationship he did not set.

So what I imagine this means for Orr's future is what we already know. He has one year left on his contract. It will be up to the AD to decide what happens after that one year. It's just going to be a different AD with different expectations and different measures of success who handles programs and relationships differently.

Congrats to Mr. Christopher! Xavier is an excellent school and I am sure you will be challenged. Thank you for all you have done for BGSU athletics. While I do not agree with everything, I believe we have a better overall department at your departure than we had at your arrival.

Now when can we expect some games with the Musketeers in the Stroh Center????

Exactly, I'm not celebrating anything until that change is made. And just because a new AD is coming in doesn't mean I expect this change to happen any sooner then next March

I don't expect it either, but hope is better than nothing. If nothing else, the new AD will get a year to watch the crap, hear us complain, and understand the frustration. Finally, HOPE.

I don't look for Orr to go. It's still a money thing, and losing Christopher does little to change that. And if anything, my guess is that it makes it even less likely he will be fired since he only has a year left. This gives the new AD time to get the department ordered to his liking before addressing coaching issues.

Look at it this way. If Christopher wasn't being interview and offered a position at Xavier, I think Orr would have been gone. Perhaps it wasn't a financial thing all along, but was actually the fact that Christopher was possibly be leaving and therefore was not his place to fire a coach anymore. I think if Christopher wasn't leaving, Orr would be gone. Orr did nothing this last season to warrant staying.

Then again, I could be wrong and it was both Christopher leaving and a financial issue. Only time will tell.
