factman's greatest day ever

We'll never know about that GC 4-year contract. This, from Twitter:

"JWagnerBlade RT @McMurphyESPN Greg Christopher, Bowling Green's AD past 7 years, will be named Xavier's new AD, source told @ESPN"

Shouldn't the Xavier president be your hero.... Big East > MAC, seems like a no brainer to me

Whoah. All I have to say is Congratulations Greg Christopher! Xavier is a heck of a program and is transitioning to a new conference, so there's a lot of new challenges forthcoming. I remember his first big task at BG to was to handle all the details for the Clash in Cleveland, which was arranged by the previous AD thus thrown on his plate, and so now his first big task will be handling this transition to a new basketball heavy league. Congratulations and all the best GC!!

Complete shocker. Xavier goes with a football AD with a history of unsuccessful basketball.

Good luck to both parties. Interesting to see where BG goes from here.

This is reason #1 why Orr wasn't fired in my mind, the fact that GC was departing (and likely knew it) and didn't want to leave a vacant head coaching position for another AD.

Or worse, hire a new coach, then take off and have a new AD inherit a new coach who he did not pick and be given expectations and hiring considerations he did not set.

I guess Xavier sees that running an athletic department is more then just hiring one coach for one sport

Division I-A / FBS school > Division I without football - would seem to negate that inequality

I hope whoever we bring in follows up where GC seemed to have us pointed with getting the stadium renovation/replacement started soon. Say what you will about GC but our facilities and donations certainly improved and increased during his tenure IMO.

Threatening to cut a program sure seems to be an effective fundraiser.

"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."
