The issue with BG is that the students don't have much pride in their school. You see this in every sport. Students would rather watch the Buckeyes or Wolverines play then go to a BGSU sporting event. More people are worried about watching March Madness then supporting the women's team. I don't think we will see big student crowds until the view of athletics at BGSU is changed. It's nice to hear that there are groups on campus that are trying to get people excited about our sports team, but I've never expected big student attendances at games. Hopefully Thursday will be different, but I wouldn't bet on it.

While true for the most part, winning CONSISTENTLY will change that.

How much more successful does a program need to be? Our women's BB program is the most successful program in league history and has won most of the last decade. How much more is needed? I will be there on Thursday as I have been for all of the home game and most of the road games. Go BG! Slay the Dragons!

It shouldn't matter, John. I should have mentioned the above post does NOT pertain to women's hoops cuz they have been off the charts for a decade. I am making the drive from Akron to see them advance to the Elite 8...they have more than earned the support, year after year, and man is it fun to watch them every season.

One problem is some people will just never go and watch women's basketball, no matter how good the team is, they just don't like women's basketball and will never watch it

Case in point, the $10 mil donor gave to the MEN'S team. I've never seen him at a WBB game, but some people just don't find the game interesting.

For me, skill is skill, men or women.

Yeah, we had a nice student turnout for a few years because the seats were GREAT and we ahd a small, core group of students who LOVED women's basketball. It comes and goes, and it will come back again. For now, we just go to as many games as we can. And when we go, we bring a friend or two and get them hooked on the drug that is Falcon Basketball!

Auburn ran over Tulane tonight, 72-52. The winner of BG/Drexel will play the Tigers in the next round.

NW Ohio has become the epi-center of the WNIT. 6 home games (to date) for two mid-major schools within 25 miles of each other with the potential for more.

And then we all graduated and moved away ;)

Won't be able to make this game... Why were all the games on Thursdays this year? Don't they know I have two classes on Thursday nights? Sadly I am moving to Columbus in the summer and won't be a season ticket holder anymore... so the Falcons better win this game, so I can come to the next one!

Looks from the roster that at least Drexel is the same size as us.... the have a 6'4" girl but she's a redshirt. At least they don't have that advantage over us... Their star player is Hollie Mershon, a 5-10 senior guard. Both teams hold their opponents to 54 ppg or less, so I'm expecting a defensive "slug-fest."

Picked up my tickets yesterday and asked the individual working if all the free tickets that were offered to students were picked up yet. His answerer, "Their slowly picking them up not all gone yet"

Free tickets and we still can't get them there................wow.

I'd posted a "mild tirade" about this; for some reason, it didn't get thru to AZZ...but I'll only say what I briefly said on the earlier one.... I know I'm a heck of a lot older than just about everyone on this site...but it bugs the heck out of me to see such a pathetic turnout of students for BG sporting events...Admittedly, when I was in school from '57-'61, I had the chance to see teams coached by Doyt Perry, Harold Anderson, Bruce Bellard, Sam Cooper et al. And there weren't as many distractions for us then, so we WENT TO GAMES! Fraternities would send pledges over to the stadium early to reserve a section of seats for them. The stadium obviously was smaller, as was the Men's gym, where I saw Jimmy Darrow and others play until Memorial Hall was built. But the main point was that we WENT TO GAMES, not just to support fellow students, but it was great entertainment. None of us had a heck of a lot of money, so even our dates many times consisted of what we called "Coke dates"; took our dates to the Nest, bought a couple of burgers and cokes and had an enjoyable time before or after a campus movie etc. NO ONE thought it odd because most of us were in the same financial boat.
Now I look at BG's lack of student support and say, WHY? Yes, men's basketball has been mediocre at best, but the ladies put on a great show. Due to major family health issues which tied us down this year, we were only able to get back to campus for 2 women's games and 1 guy's game....how many Current BG students can say they even match that?
Enough of my frustrations.....go BG women! Let's get to the elite 8 tonite!!! =D>
