Dear Rutgers give us your AD
I know that there is a big group of people here that won't like the idea but the only way that we are getting a guy like this is if he has a bit of taint to him. (I was going to rephrase that but it made me laugh out loud so I won't---you get what I mean).
Reports that I read said he wanted to fire the guy and couldn't.
He is the guy who got Rutgers into the Big Ten. I love love love this idea

Nevermind he has a ton of background outside of athletics in TV and will likely return to that. I would love to get him though.

Rutgers BB sucks too.

He SAID he wanted to fire a coach and couldn't.
Re: Dear Rutgers give us your AD
As much as I hate the B1G, he could help grow BG athletics to heights unimagined. He got Rutgers in which means the B1G knows him and he knows how to negotiate with them. I honestly don't think it would really be that hard to do either.
1) Negotiate a hockey only membership into the B1G. They only have 6 teams currently, which is going to make it difficult to fill a non-conference schedule. 8 teams would probably be ideal, and BG is the closest school to the majority of the hockey schools (Notre Dame doesn't count because they're Notre Dame).
2) As a condition of (1), BG gets one home and one away football game against B1G opponents every year. To sweeten this, the gaurantee pay for the away game is negated, but the extra home attendance should come close to making up for it.
3) Same as (2), just substitute Mens Basketball and Womens Basketball in place of Football.

Meh, how tainted, really? I'd take him. And if we could look in everyone's closets, would he appear more tainted than most?

Retread AD's abound across D-I with far more negatives than him. Bring him in for an interview. What's the worst that could happen?
Of course, based on their backgrounds, about half of the members on our laughably under-qualified "selection committee" probably think he's a character on The Sopranos.

"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

I did say "as much as I hate the B1G." The way I look at it, it would not hurt the hockey team at all. Gives more exposure through the BTN, shorter travel, more recognizable teams coming into the Arena.Falcon Fanatic wrote:You seriously need slapped for that post!pdt1081 wrote:As much as I hate the B1G, he could help grow BG athletics to heights unimagined. The only way I would be for it is if the other programs at BG benefit. The hockey team will be successful no matter what league they are in. If they can help the other programs by appeasing the B1G, I can't really see the downside (personal feelings aside).

The B1G Wanted in New Jersey
Rutgers is in the B1G because they're located in New Jersey, plain and simple. What other New Jersey school would they take? Montclair State? Ramapo?pdt1081 wrote:As much as I hate the B1G, he could help grow BG athletics to heights unimagined. He got Rutgers in which means the B1G knows him and he knows how to negotiate with them.
The B1G wanted Rutgers for one reason and one reason only - the B1G Network. The B1G Network charges a higher fee for states that have a B1G institution. They get like 10 cents a customer in non-B1G states and a $1.14 in B1G states.
The former Rutgers AD had nothing to do with Rutgers getting invited into the B1G. It was all about the Benjamin$$$$$$$$$$.
