New Players for 13-14 season
BGSUFalcons.com has a nice write up on the three new incoming freshmen in women's basketball. Though we obviously lose some qualtiy players in the departing senior class, these kids look like they can play... BG should be very young with the two rising sophs who got a lot of P.T. But the three new players, along with Erika Donovan, who sat out last yr. via NCAA rules, look they should help BG to "reload" once again.
Education our Challenge, Excellence our goal. (look it up)

Any word on the new assistant coach? The two current assistants were "outside the family" hires and it'll be interesting to see who Roos goes with this time.

Re: New Players for 13-14 season
They are in the interviewing stage. I was looking at employment possibilities on bgsu.edu and I noticed that there was a second assistant women's basketball job listed. It looks like Emily London has left also. Guess that means Coach Roos will be looking for another assistant. As to a BG connection, possibly Megan Thorburn? I know she didn't coach last season at OU but she certainly would fit into our system. We will have to wait and see who gets hired. We need to have them in place if at all possible before July recruiting.

Wow. That's the problem when you bring in people with no connection to the school or program. It's just a paycheck before the next bigger one.falconwomenbball wrote:They are in the interviewing stage. Actually I think she is not gong to be coaching at all. She may have decided that the coaching profession isn't for her after all. It is a tough profession. You work a lot of hours. I wish her the best. I hope that she finds a profession that suits her.

Re: New Players for 13-14 season
First hire is Jacey Brooks from Canisius College.
She has an association with assistant coach Jesse Fleming from their St. Bonaventure days.

That seems strange. She got to play a lot. Unless this has something to do with the Ali Mann thing...BGFalconfromCincy wrote:Add a coach, lose a player

I think that is closer to home for Bailey, but I'll miss her. Bailey and Miriam Justinger both were the recipients of a lot of playing time as freshmen and I was looking forward to their sophomore campaigns.BGFalconfromCincy wrote:Add a coach, lose a player

Why would you say something like that without knowing if it's true? From what I read, it looks like she is moving closer to her home. Maybe she was just homesick and wanted to play a little closer to her home.footballguy51 wrote:That seems strange. She got to play a lot. "Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Re: New Players for 13-14 season
I can't say I'm actually surprised. These team is loaded on wing players, so there's not enough minutes to go around. Frankly I expected Hoekstra to leave given her lack of minutes, but I guess now she'll get more time. Now the roster stands at 11 people. At least there is ample playing time for everyone, but... 11 players is not exactly a deep roster.
I know I've said this before, but looking at the revised roster: http://www.bgsufalcons.com/roster.aspx? ... ath=wbball ... I'm very, very concerned that we have three legitimate post players. Rogers, Stein, Siefker.. Justinger is listed as a forward but I've never seen her play the 4 or the 5, she's always a 3. In fact I've never seen any of the other players, besides Stein and Rogers, play in the post. Maybe Donovan can? But I was under the impression she was a wing, too.
So if one of those three posts gets injured... uh... what happens?
Also, two of these three posts are seniors (Rogers, Stein). So not only does this look ugly for next year... but now I'm worried about the future of the post beyond 2013-14. We will literally have just Siefker so far for 2014 and beyond. The next recruiting class better be full of them. And we really ought to have another post for this year - I'm REALLY hoping we can get a late signee, but it's almost too late for that. Or even a transfer, so that 2014-2015 doesn't look so scary. Yikes.
I have faith Roos will get this sorted out. She may be switching somebody to the post. But right now I think it's a pretty glaring problem with this roster. And it's a problem that opponents will take advantage of - just wear out the post players or get them in foul trouble, because they don't have any subs.

Re: New Players for 13-14 season
I'm not saying it is true. That's simply me wondering. She obviously isn't transferring because she wants more playing time, as she would get plenty of that here. I could see the homesick angle being correct. It just seems that a lot of times a player transferring is usually accompanied by a reason. The fact that a reason wasn't supplied this time made me curious.Falcon Fanatic wrote:Why would you say something like that without knowing if it's true? It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
