Interesting Letter from Coach Wienert

Post by Warthog »

This was in Wednesday's Sentinel Tribune. I appreciate that Dakich had the players write thank you letters, as well as all the women's teams. But I find it interesting that Coach Wienert doesn't even know who the current coach is. What does that say about the state of the program?

Hell with the state of the program - what happened to common courtesy? For somebody who helps pay for your education (or anything for that matter), a thank you is certainly in order. And a size-able donation should always be thanked for in writing. It is pathetic to see that even something as simple as that has been overlooked or downright ignored.

You usually can't just print a letter someone sent you individually.

Louis Orr is the current and thankfully soon to be former coach. Coach Wienert is better off not knowing the last 6 years of what has happened to this program. Is there an app that will send a personal letter yet?

Very classy letter by Rogers. women seem to have that stuff hardwired somehow. Pretty cool that Wienert did that, too.

Musicman, you're right on! I believe this is something that ALL coaches should be encouraging their players to do!! PERIOD!!! Reaching out to the community members or former alumni/coaches only makes sense and it is what I'd expect our players to do: Say THANK YOU!!! Geez, it's not rocket science...it's just COMMON COURTESY!!! #-o

It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Not surprising Coach W would write such a letter. He has been sour grapes for years. Yet, what he said needed to be said.

The letter seems to state that the scholarship goes to EITHER a men's or women's team member annually. If it's going to Alexis Rogers then it's not going to a member of the men's program. He would have no cause to criticize "the current coach" for not having the courtesy to write letters for a scholarship that is not even going to his players.

"...the good people of Bowling Green created a scholarship that would go to a member of the men's or women's basketball team to help pay their cost for an education."

Unless Weinart incorrectly stated the terms of the scholarship (a definite possibility given his present state of awareness) the dig against Orr is unjustified. The only other explanation is that it rotates year-to-year and Orr's players have never written the letters when it's their year.

I understand what you are saying mscarn. But by the same token, several of his other references seem to make me beleive the mulitple players get funds each year. "everyone of Dan Dakich's players" "Larranaga's players" "present coaches players" "everyone members of the women's team" All those plurals would make be think that at least one of Orr's players likely received some funds at some time.

Coach Weinart has to be getting up there in years. He was not a spring chicken when he coached in the late 70's and early 80's. Perhaps that's why he doesn't know who Orr is.

After all these years, HIS teams were the most talented and most fun to watch.

That home MAC Championship loss to OU was heartbreaking. Best shot we have had at a NCAA berth...and on our floor.

That and the MAC championship loss to Kent are my 2nd and 3rd biggest BG basketball heartbreaks.

True. It's an attention to detail thing which doesn't characterize how this program has been run since the beginning.
