Entire Coaching Staff is Back for 2005

Post by jmillerbg »

From today's Blade

FULL STRENGTH: Brandon said his entire assistant coaching staff remains intact, and that continuity is a plus for the BG program.

"When I was at Northwestern, for five years we had the same nine full-time coaches, " Brandon said. "And that is a reason we went to the Rose Bowl. Keeping the guys together is huge."

I think it is fair to assume that many of our assistants are getting interest from other schools. I wonder if many are staying here now because they think Brandon will be moving on soon to a larger program and that is the best way to advance their own careers?

I am certainly thrilled to have our staff back for another year. This also makes me think that if Brandon leaves we could lose a large amount of assistant coaches that follow him. Hopefully we can maintain continuity by promoting from within again (many people here think Styd is a natural choice), but the threat is out there and Krebs needs to do all he can to maintain this staff if Brandon goes elsewhere.

Now that's funny..."Krebs". That's probably the first person we will lose.

This is a big plus for the 2005 season. I'm sure many programs had their eyes on our assistants just like that school up north. Success causes eyes to fall on you. UT's Spence is off to Clemson and West is the new HC at Indiana State.

Signing Day tomorrow...I think I'll call in sick. Gotta keep the priorities straight.

I am holding out hope that Krebs will stay at his alma mater rather than going to "the school I love to hate."

Speaking of the coaching staff, my brother called me last evening and said he'll be attending talks given by Coach Mike Ward and Coach Dennis Springer this weekend at the OHSAA football coahces meeting. Ward's talk was entitled something along the lines of "Getting the most out of your DL, and Springer's was "Utilizing the running back in the spread offense." He had the choice of any of the coaches, which included a number of OSU coaches, but said he thought he'd learn more from BG. When he returns from the meeting this weekend, he said he'd let me know the details. I'll post what he reports.

Krebs

Post by JoeFalcon »

We have to hope some big-time people apply for the job and have excellent interviews.

So far, the only other candidate being discussed is a former basketball player at Ohio State who works in private business.

Their troubles are likely scaring people away who might have ordinarily expressed interest.

I doubt it's the troubles.

I think it's the fact that it's Krebs' job to lose.

I've been in hiring situations like this. You have a candidate in hand who appears to be a slam dunk. You have to go through the motions with the hopes that someone even more incredible pops up. But that is rarely the case. And anyone interested in the job knows they must measure themselves against Krebs, the clear frontrunner. And they know they cannot simply match his credentials, they must exceed them because he is the frontrunner.

That's a tall order, to be sure.

This job is Krebs' for the taking.
