Teams in better leagues than that island of misfit toys outfit they call a conference have thought the same thing and learned better.

17-14 Falcons.

Just a bit o' smack talk from the Golden Hurricane faithful.

My fave..."BG is still just a MAC team". Cuz Convict USA is so much better, right? :-D

Thursday night cannot get here soon enough...
Given our history against them I can't say I blame their optimism.

We need to shut them the fxck up!
Kdog, I hear ya. Head to head Tulsa has owned us in the past. No denying that...

But pound for pound, the MAC is a better conference at this time. And you have the right idea. Shut their pie hole come Thursday night.

GO FALCONS!!!

I bet we look so bad that the season seems over before it even really began.

We lost our best player on both sides of the ball. Our second best defensive player. Our Left Tackle. And didn't fix QB.

I do find it hilarious that they talk about Conference USA like they are just below the SEC.

Wow...are you ever a pessimist. How would you have "fixed" QB? I think having an open competition for the job was a pretty ballsy move by the HC seeing as how the incumbent starter had the job for three years and currently sits in the top five all time here for passing yards.

What would you have done?

And Gabe Martin was our second best D player last year...Boo Boo was our third. Last year I would put Woods at 4th...maybe 5th behind Truss.

Best not to feed. If the thinks the team is gonna be so terrible this year then he probably shouldn't watch.

Yes...I think he's being serious (apologies if I'm wrong). I don't think he'll be watching any way since we aren't as big as OSU... :)

Sounds like Globe to me.

This is football, you can lose star players and be OK. Personally I don't see the Samuel departure as that big of a hit. He ran for a shade under 1,000 yards and wasn't a big threat catching the ball. Those numbers can easily be replicated or bettered.

I thought he was talking about Chris Jones....Samuel? Nice player, but not the biggest threat we have offensively (Gallon) and he isn't going to be as difficult to replace as Jones

Not to mention he was also injured a few times in his two years. We have better depth at RB than last year and that will prove to be a strength during the season.

I didn't get to see as many games last year, but what I did see Gallon was definitely our best player on offense, and obviously he's still around. Also with Samuel's injury issues over the years I think the team will have no problem just moving on...he was always our best back but the dropoff wasn't that bad, IMO.

The big thing for me is the passing game. This team MUST get better in that regard. Schilz is, IMO, too talented to play as poorly as he did last year. I still say that a lot of it, though, is the scheme we ask him to play in...if they're going to get better in the passing a game a big chunk of it has to be letting him do the things he does best. He's not the pinpoint guy that can excel by throwing 5 yard slants in tight windows. He needs to be chucking it downfield...and with Gallon/Joplin on the outside he's got the weapons to make that happen.

Overall I think the game will be a tight one on Thursday. I don't know enough about Tulsa to have a real educated guess, but I think that we keep it close and it comes down to the 4th quarter. I also think that Schilz didn't win that QB competition by that great a margin so if he does come out and piss down his leg (I don't think he will) then we could definitely see a change made.

Personally I expect Schilz to put up his best year as a Falcon and Joplin/Gallon are going to remind us of the Sharon/Sanders days.

I think Gallon is the best playmaker on offense. I've always thought Alex Bayer has been underrated and under used. Great blocker in the run game and catches seemingly everything. Surprised he's never been more of a factor in the redzone. In fact, I think the biggest improvement from the offense this year, will be in the redzone. Plenty of targets, Gallon (6'4, 223) Joplin (6'2, 209) and Bayer (6'4, 257).

I think Bayer is in for a big year, with Gallon and Joplin on the outside and hopefully a playmaker emerging in the slot. He could be deadly up the seam and as a check down guy for Schilz.
