Hockey Editorial
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

The WCHA has become college hockey's version of the MAC - a group of small to mid-major schools with similar resources, who are usually evenly-matched and play competitive games almost every night, and are on the bottom end of the national pecking order.
Am I wrong that the only mid-major in the WCHA is BG?

Re: Hockey Editorial
BG is the only school in the new WCHA that is D1 for all sports. I don't follow D2 or D3 that much to know if there are schools referred to as power conference schools or mid-major schools at those levels. None of the schools in the WCHA now are among the current hockey power schools, so they are essentially mid-majors for the sport of hockeyMacGuy wrote:The WCHA has become college hockey's version of the MAC - a group of small to mid-major schools with similar resources, who are usually evenly-matched and play competitive games almost every night, and are on the bottom end of the national pecking order.

Remember the CCHA in 1983-84 was not a major conference either. The object is to get into the NCAA and then anything can happen. Check out the link to the final records of all CCHA teams in 1983-84 and you will see only 3 teams had winning records, with BG and MSU having great records. I'll take a repeat of that season.

Re: Hockey Editorial
Yup we have seen that a lot recently with RIT and Bemidji's Frozen Four appearances and more #4 regional seeds knocking off #1 seeds. I believe there is a great opportunity available for the teams in the WCHA who make the NCAA tournament to make noise and cause upsetsbgpuckster wrote:The object is to get into the NCAA and then anything can happen
