OB is still a huge concern for me. Johnson does not have a strong arm. The running game and D won this game. At some point we will need to stretch the field when folks stack the box. Hook came too soon in my opinion. If you look at his stats he had a below average passing game but made some plays with his feet. That wont hold up over time.

Taking over possession inside their 20 and a PR TD was 21 points with virtually no drives. Need to work on those things. Defense/ST bailed the team out there. But I'll take the win.

On a side note... what was that cool country song that ESPN kept playing out to commercials?

Small sample size but that looked like the same ole Schilz. Poor mechanics, no pocket presence, and zero threat to run. Now we can tailor the offense to Johnson's strengths. Assuming he starts next week of course.

While it's true that defense and special teams accounted for a lot of the points in this game, you can't overlook the key plays made by Johnson that Schilz could never have made running, and the impact it had on Tulsa's defensive schemes.

I'm convinced that Clawson has had enough of his offense being hamstrung by a QB that is all but a statue and if his passing is off, the offense then becomes very one dimensional and much easier to defend.

No, Johnson does not have the touch or passing skills or experience yet...but he brings athleticism to the position that can literally be a game changer (and was tonight at times).

I see no reason to go back to Schilz after tonight's game. Continue with Johnson and try to build up his passing game. If they get into a bind and need to become a passing team, there's nothing that says Clawson can't use two quarterbacks at times.

On another note, if BG's offensive line can form some cohesion as a unit, this team is going to have one helluva running game. I can't recall seeing this much backfield talent in Bowling Green in a long, long, long time. The only thing that stopped some plays from breaking big tonight was line breakdowns because of some younger players learning the ropes.

God help teams at the back end of the schedule if this group develops as they should during this season. BG is going to run roughshod over some teams.

Wow what a win! The defense was awesome.

The qb thing is crazy. You can't tell me that Schilz actually won that qb competition in the coaches' minds. You don't take your starter out two series into the season if you think he's your best shot to win. That being said he looked pretty terrible on the passes he did throw.

Johnson clearly brings another dimension with his running ability but he didn't look much better throwing than Schilz did. They're going to need him to start showing something downfield or you can bet the whole defense will be creeping up to stop the run. It worked ok tonight with Tulsa clearly game planned for Schilz. Let's hope that, if Johnson is the guy, we see some improvement in his passing.

A lot of his struggles had to do with the line and WRs not getting open enough. I saw a lot of guys cutting off their routes after a couple seconds which left Johnson with few options. His interception was a terrible throw. I'm sure they'll work hard at correcting this during the week. I was impressed in his ability to check down though and then tuck it and run. I knew Johnson was the better QB after the last scrimmage and figured Clawson was giving Schilz enough rope to hang himself with.

Yes..we were kind of in the same boat as last year in the 1st half...except our kicker made the FG's :)
I thought Johnson looked better throwing in the second half, but he does not look like a guy who's going to be able to power it downfield and that could really bite us in the ass eventually.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

100% agree. It rubs me the wrong way. I'm all for Johnson starting and his mobility and fire showed a ton. I think it sucks to name a senior your starter then pull him two series in.

Got to watch/listen on the way up to Michigan off my phone. Johnson's mobility is great. Really important to have that option on offense. He will get on track with more time with receivers. He has very little experience at this point. Defense was amazing. Somehow I missed all of Houston's Tds.

What's Givens status. I think Greene was ok but Givens flashed more last year.

The int was a bad throw for sure but bit seemed to be an Inrxperienced qb going back to the pass that he had just found success with and not really thinking through the offense.

I just watched the replay from Alaska. BTW was in Palmer earlier. Beautiful up here, good to know Cole Magner came from a great place. Wow that game. Good to finally dominate those guys. Our first team D shut out a top 10 offense. They only scored on backups. I think the entire MAC collectively crapped their pants.
