I think we should be patient with our new quarterback. I know that we are looking at the schedule and coming to the same conclusion:
We finally got a schedule that doesn't have us against some powerhouses out of conference, and most of the better teams from the west.
Ergo, we see the need for our new quarterback to be 100% going forward. Problem is, Johnson needs a game or two more to settle in with the first team.
However, I think we should keep in mind how many of our games were very close in the last few seasons, even though we didn't have a mobile quarterback. As it stands, Johnson appears to have comparable, if not a little better, passing skills than Schilz. If his passing improves at all, in concert with his running ability, it should be enough to make it a good year for us.
I haven't been this optimistic in a while, and I intend to enjoy it.
Matt Johnson and Other Thoughts
Re: Matt Johnson and Other Thoughts
I expect him to play this week, at least some and I think there may be a game down the road Schilz will need to win. But the flip side of those numbers are, he's thrown for 4 TDs and 5 INTs in 2 losses the past 2 years.Flipper wrote:Schilz has thrown for 400 and 355 the last two times out against KSU, so I wouldn't count him out for this weekend.
Re: Matt Johnson and Other Thoughts
That is quite the flip side. Personally I still feel Schilz was pulled much too early, but I'm also not so sure that putting him back out there would be the best either. I don't think Schilz was very pleased with the staff about getting pulled and not going back in (this seems silly, but he is very active on twitter and his account has been completely silent since Thursday's game) and sometimes attitude makes all the difference in a game like this.Falcon137 wrote:But the flip side of those numbers are, he's thrown for 4 TDs and 5 INTs in 2 losses the past 2 years.Flipper wrote:Schilz has thrown for 400 and 355 the last two times out against KSU, so I wouldn't count him out for this weekend.
