Driving yourself home from jail after being arrested for OVI? Um, no. OVI automatically suspends your license until you appear in court for trial. They make that clear. And while work privileges can be won in court, you're not going to win them until you go to court.

I'd put money on the university's insurance won't insure him.

There is the issue of liability and insurance....if he travels in University supplied transportation...or cars provided by an outside vendor...would he be insurable? When I worked in insurance I had company vehicles. The rule of thumb at one company was you HAD to drive a company vehicle to do the job and if you had a DUI you couldn't drive their car...so essentially you were fired. The other companies where I had an option of using their car or taking an allowance to use my own, it was generally understood that a DUI got you fired because if you weren't allowed to drive, you couldn't function.

Most of these things never get to be duis.

He's not e first college football coach to get a DUI. Is there a precedence to fire someone?

There ya go. If he alters his lifestyle and keeps away from alcohol abuse, he's not destroyed.

Not the AZZ crucifixion that most wanted, but a second chance.
