Put me on board with the MAC title crowd. We've seen BG get pretty far into the rankings, and it meant very little without that elusive championship to cap things off. What's worse beside a 20+ year drought is the last time we were in position to actually win one; will be 10 yrs ago this year.

What most of us haven't seen since becoming Falcons, is a football MAC championship. I am really optimistic this year about the chances of getting to the big game that's in Detroit.

(but slightly worried about our chances of winning that game.)

I want a M.A.C. title more than any of all that.

1992 is far too distant
This!!! Our last MAC Championship was in 1992. My first year at BG was 1993 - meaning - I'm still waiting to experience one. It's exactly why games like Ohio and Toledo are "more important" than Indiana and Mississippi State are. If we lose to teams like OU and UT but beat IU and MSU, we're still likely not going to Detroit. The non-conference wins are great, don't get me wrong, but they don't count for squat in terms of a conference title.

I said if we beat Indiana and took care of business after the Hoosiers after (meaning winning those next three after IU). Then we could possibly start sniffing around. But first thing is first, beat IU!

The polls themselves state "Others receiving votes" so we are "receiving votes." The points themselves stem from that. But I follow you, something that bugs me about receiving votes is when you see someone say we're ranked 36th in the Top-25. That's not true, 25 teams are "ranked" in the Top-25. If it were a Top-40 poll, we could find ourselves ranked. But we're not. Still, it's nice to see our name in the mix.

My guess is that it'll take us until at least week 6 to get ranked. We might even have to win in Starkville to ultimately get there because I don't see most voters getting on our bandwagon by us beating teams like Murray State, Akron, and Massachusetts unless they have no choice but to move us up because everybody in front of us is losing.

What irks me is that somehow, one or two poll voters thought that we were a top 25 team after beating Tulsa, yet were so unimpressed with our 41-22 win over Kent State that they dropped us out. That makes no sense to me.
BG was on one ballot last week and one ballot this week. Doug Lesmerises dropped BG from 17 to 19.

And, FWIW, "Dougie" is the Cleve. PD main coverage guy for a school in Columbus. He does usually take time to explain his voting. Don't know his logic this time, UNLESS someone 'below' us blew someone away.
Maybe Clawson didn't pronounce his name the French way. Our fate in these matters is largely in the hands of people who couldn't name 5 players on the roster. Then again, you had to let the drops of jealousy dry off the ballots of the fellow MAC coaches who excluded us.

As expected, after yesterday's performance we can let this thread die for the season. But Northern Illinois is getting close to breaking in again.
