This announcement was made over nine hours ago, and Factman has yet to weigh in with his thoughts?!?!?!?!?!?!? Is he too busy crying tears of joy b/c he's so in love with our new AD?
In all seriousness, I'm a pretty big fan of what I've seen of our new AD as well, and I'm happy that diving was reinstated.
I had a chance on Fri. nite to sit next to Chris Kingston at an alum dinner on Fri. nite...so I guess we got a bit of "advance" info. on the diving program.
I'm very impressed with Chris, who seems to really have it all together, even at this early stage of his BG career. He's not afraid to attack what he sees as possible problems; his first question to me upon our meeting was, " how can we improve your game experience?".... so he's aware of the things that most of you guys have mentioned i.e. concessions problems, getting students into the stadium in a timely manner etc. I think you'll like him when you get the chance to meet him.
Education our Challenge, Excellence our goal. (look it up)

I had some "advance" info on this as well from Thursday afternoon, but he asked us not to spread it around since it wasn't made official. His reasoning for adding this program is very sound: Every swimming match, we start in the hole because we score 0 points on diving. Therefore, it is almost impossible to win any matches at all. Hard to win the Reese and Jacoby when you handicap yourself like that.

We were giving up 16 to 19 points per diving event. Multiply that by 2 events per match (1m and 3m springboard) and you now have 32 to 38 points your squad has to make up on the competition and you have yourself in a deep hole.
Petra Martin is a fantastic coach. These ladies have bought in to what she is preaching and she has brought the program up to a respectable level. But with the return of the diving program, this squad can become MAC Champions again.
We just have to hire the right coach who will stick with the program. I think AD Kingston is going to be willing to come up with the funding necessary to hire the right coach (in the past, our diving coaches were part-time or volunteers and we did not have them for more than a year or two).
