Up next, Akron

Post by MarkL »

I'm watching Akron right now ... not gonna lie, they look pretty good against ULL. A bit ago they were down by 14 and now it is tied at 14. Their offense looks pretty dynamic and I've always been impressed with their RB. I guess there was a QB change against JMU and since then the O has been pretty solid. This will not be an easy win next week, not at all. If they win this one today, they are going to come into the Doyt feeling like world beaters after playing Michigan down to the wire and a win over ULL. Dangerous, dangerous team if you ask me ...

I expect to see a much better Akron and UMass. We can't let up on either of them.

It's back to "real" business next week. These next two games are must-win games for us. With teams like Toledo and Ohio sitting out there yet, games like these are ones we can't slip up in. Period. Akron has impressed the hell out of me the last few weeks. This is a team that should have beaten Michigan two weeks ago and nearly upset Louisiana-Lafayette (team expected to win the Sun Belt) this weekend. Big game for us.

I have too much of the MAC on my mind. Of courses that should be Sun Belt.

I did see on some board (believe it is the site that UT's board is through) some Sun Belt people trying to say the MAC was going to add Arkansas State and Louisiana-Lafayette

Gosh I hope not. Through all this realignment craziness, the MAC is the one conference to be mostly unaffected. I'd like to keep it that way.

Re: Akron as a THREAT.... I mentioned to our coaching staff a couple of yrs. ago about a kid from Cuy. Hts. HS, Zach D'Orazio. Played QB and safety for a small school, that is a perennial playoff team in Div.5/6 (or whatever they're in now with the revised divisions).... he's tall, (6'2"), fast (was on their track team relays) and I honestly thought he might be a better safety than QB.
Anyway, Akron had already jumped on him, converted him to a WR, and after losing a yr. to a broken leg, he's back...in spades! Has several TD catches and probably is their most dangerous WR now. We'll need to keep an eye on him as well as putting LOTS of pressure on their QB who's really looked good, especially in past 2 weeks. :-k

2:30 is a weird start time. How did we come to that decision?

To show how big this game is be for BG, if BG beats Akron, not only would it put the Falcons 2-0 in the East, but if WMU beats KSU, no other team in the East would have a single MAC win. Granted, most teams haven't even played a MAC game yet, but a win would really elevate us atop the standings early on over everyone.
