WMU beating KSU would be a massive upset based on how badly the Broncos have been so far.

Kent is only 1-3 so far, but that's mostly because they've played a monster schedule to this point. With how we've played so far (sans the Indiana game) a 2nd MAC defeat for Kent probably eliminates them from contention...I don't see us racking up more than 2 MAC losses this year.

Akron is no slouch, and I'm really concerned about the Falcons' secondary vs. their offense. They have playmakers at WR. Should be a tight game.

I think it will be a close game. I think we need to score at least 30 if we're going be 4-1 for the time in forever.

I saw in my local paper today that BG is a 15 point favorite this week. To me, that seems way out of line. I just hope our players aren't reading that stuff and thinking this will be an easy one, because it won't. Of course, that same paper also had WMU a 3 point favorite over KSU. Not sure who's coming up with these lines.

Just read this in our game notes.....A win Saturday would also make Bowling Green 2-0 in MAC play. The Falcons have not
won their first two league games since 2005.....That is almost hard to believe that we haven't won our first two MAC games in nearly a decade,
GO BG!!!

That season still haunts me today. BG was 5-2 and 3-0 in the MAC heading into the home game vs. Western Michigan when Omar got hurt, the wheels fell off and then the team lost to Akron the next week, and of course the 2OT loss to Toledo. One of Brandon's many close but no cigar seasons at BG.

That is hard to believe.....particularly since we were at or above .500 in conference play for several of those years.

2005, 2008 and 2011 were really frustrating years....I'd have to say 2005 was the worst though because that team had too much talent to be so mediocre.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

2008 was as frustrating as anything. 19 points ... 19 points from 8-0 in MAC play. Instead it was 4-4 where we had a lead in all four losses in the fourth quarter. If the team just played better and put teams away, that season could have been 10+ wins. Instead, 6 wins and 6 agonizing losses.

Watching Akron for the last few years, I will have to say that this team is ready for a dog of a game. In previous years, they would play up for a game or two, then lay an egg for a couple of them. Remember last year, they could have beaten Tennessee only to lose the rest of their FBS games-most by many, many points. I would not be surprised if the Falcons jumped on them early... and see Akron fold for a twenty point loss. Akron's defense is a little better, but I can see a drop off in offense on Saturday...

I remember that game like it was yesterday too. We jumped on WMU early then Omar rolled out to his left and was hit and injured and the entire game blew up in our face. As you mentioned, we then lost to Akron the next week with Turner at QB if I remember correctly. I remember sitting there at the Doyt watching those Akron fans running back and forth in the stadium with that large Akron flag while thinking to myself how is this happening???

I find this season to be pretty amusing in a sense. And granted, these thoughts are only through the first four games.

But I think we would all agree that coming into the season, if our QB played well -- like Matt Schilz 2011 season ish well -- we'd be almost a lock to at least get to the MAC Championship game. And now here we are, our QB has completed nearly 65% of his passes and has already racked up 1,000 passing yards (23rd best in the country to this point), and we are sitting here realistically talking about how tough this game will be and needing to possibly score 30 points just to beat Akron. I'm not disagreeing with these points, it's just crazy how a season can unfold.

The fact is, no one can predict anything. Especially in football when a team has 60-70+ guys on a team.

The reason I'm saying what I have about Akron is it has nothing to do with how good BG is. It is how dangerous Akron can be. In terms of talent I don't think they are in the top few of the conference, but they played Michigan down to the wire. Yeah Michigan wasn't Michigan that day, but Akron played their hearts out. They played as hard as I've ever seen and nearly came up with the premiere conference win of the season. They played like they believe they can win. An underdog with that kind of belief and heart can be very dangerous ... we've seen that one happen to us before.

I have been following BG since 1993. In that time we have been in the Top-25, have won numerous games against BCS teams, have hosted College Gameday and have had some great players. But one thing hasn't happened in the last 20 years - we have never won a MAC Championship. Along with the things already listed, I have witnessed a "fat punter" ruin our MAC title, seen Big Ben take our MAC title and watched Buffalo steal our MAC title in a 4th quarter and OT rally. Until we do actually WIN a MAC title, every single team and game we play in the MAC is huge IMO. Because as history has shown, it only takes one game to go wrong (like the WMU game discussed earlier) to send a team and season right down the shitter. Is this game against Akron huge? Damn right it is!

We're not talented enough to overlook or take any team lightly. Heck even UMass gave Vanderbilt trouble. If Akron can give UM all it can handle, they are certainly capable of beating us.

Didn't say at all that it's not a big game or that I disagreed with anyone's opinion. Simply made a statement about the uniqueness of college football.
