I like BG to cover in this game but not by much. Line has moved to 14.5. I'll say 41-24.

In that time we have been in the Top-25, have won numerous games against BCS teams, have hosted College Gameday and have had some great players. But one thing hasn't happened in the last 20 years - we have never won a MAC Championship. Along with the things already listed, I have witnessed a "fat punter" ruin our MAC title, seen Big Ben take our MAC title and watched Buffalo steal our MAC title in a 4th quarter and OT rally. Until we do actually WIN a MAC title, every single team and game we play in the MAC is huge IMO. Because as history has shown, it only takes one game to go wrong (like the WMU game discussed earlier) to send a team and season right down the shitter. Is this game against Akron huge? Damn right it is!

Didn't say at all that it's not a big game or that I disagreed with anyone's opinion. Simply made a statement about the uniqueness of college football.[/quote]

Should be another beautiful day at the Doyt...I like BG, 45-24. We should be there no later than 10 to tailgate...providing everyone is ready to leave the nest by 7:50.

Going back to the point about not starting a MAC season 2-0 since 2005...it's true. We've really struggled with getting off on the right foot in recent seasons.

2006 - won 1st game vs Buffalo 48-40 (3OT), lost 2nd game vs Kent State 38-3
2007 - won 1st game vs Temple 48-35, lost 2nd game at Miami 47-14
2008 - lost 1st game vs Eastern Michigan 24-21
2009 - lost 1st game vs Ohio 45-37
2010 - lost 1st game vs Buffalo 28-26
2011 - won 1st game at Miami 37-23, lost 2nd game at Western Michigan 45-21
2012 - lost 1st game at Toledo 27-15

Not exactly a stellar history. We have had a couple instances of the Family Weekend jinx in there, most notably 2006, the Miami whammy arrived on scene in 2007, and a total WTF result in 2008. That 2008 loss to EMU was probably the most baffling ridiculously stupid result I've ever seen as a BGSU fan because there was no explanation for that kind of a performance. That loss was the beginning of the end for Gregg Brandon...ultimately clinched by the Buffalo meltdown later that year.

Yeah Michigan wasn't Michigan that day, but Akron played their hearts out. They played as hard as I've ever seen and nearly came up with the premiere conference win of the season.
That's the thing, though. They played way over their heads, Michigan played an admitttedly terrible game and they still lost. They can't marshall that type of effort every week.

Akron's decent and we can certainly lose, but I place little stock in one flukey performance against a team coming off an emotional win with a history of playing down to its competition (see UConn last week).

I was reading the history of the series against Akron and it says we've only played them 19 times in our history? That surprised me more than anything.

I don't think Akron has been in the MAC for all that long, or that relatively long.

They joined the MAC in the late 80s.

We also haven't played them every year either due to either being in the west division or because of the unbalanced schedule in the east having 7 team
