OK quick post game thoughts ...

1. Great win!!
2. Great adjustments!! I love our coaching staff. Best in the conference.
3. Our D continues to impress me. They got shellshocked early but figured out the Akron O and were steady from there. They couldn't get a pass rush so they shut down the receivers and never let the run game do any significant damage.
4. Johnson impresses me more every week.
5. Travis Greene is outstanding for us. I do worry a bit about how much we use him. I worry a bit that he might get a little banged up down the stretch. I would like to see our depth at RB flex some more. We saw three tailbacks today but I would like to see Hopgood and Martin some more.
6. Receivers had a bit of a shaky first half but solid second half. Burbrink was outstanding today.
7. Ronnie Moore has shown us flashes of speed. At some point he is going to break open a gigantic play.
8. We're 2-0 in the MAC and a leg up on Kent!
9. Barring any surprises we'll be 3-0 soon!

What a good solid win over a dangerous team. I never doubt this BG team with how hard they play and how well they adjust when things don't go to play. This is a fun team and this will be a very exciting season.

GO BG!!

I didn't get to see the adjustments and great turnaround (don't get ESPN3), but it sounds like the coaching staff did an outstanding job of making changes AND getting players to pick up the intensity.

There is no question that this is a very talented team on both sides of the ball; easily the most talented we've had at BG in a number of years. I would dearly love to see them win the East and get a shot at Northern Illinois -- because I don't think anyone in the West is going to touch them.

Once you get to the game...anything can happen.

Of course, first things first...win the next game!

I give Terry Bowden credit. He took over a team with very little talent but he hs them playing hard. If he ever gets some players, they'll be dangerous in the MAC.

I admit I was pretty unhappy with the offense and defense for the first 20 minures but they shut me up after that. I still don't have the confidence in out D that some do. I think Toledo and Ohio, and hopefully NIU or Ball State are going have favorable matchups against our secondary.

Good win today. Some of our past teams would have packed it in before halftime.

4-1 :supz:

Watched the game on my phone from a waiting room at IU Health Center. E3 has been great for me this year.

Like many, the adjustments this staff makes and the team employs are great. Wish we wouldn't spot points like we have.

Greene and Houston just make me smile. Knock on wood...they take care of the ball and provide that thunder and lightening.

Very concerning first quarter and a pretty frustrating first half overall, but a better second half on both sides of the ball. If this was Toledo or Ohio today I think it would have cost us. Still no sign of a pass rush. I know Jones was huge for us but with all the returners we have I am still scratching my head. Remember hearing of how Montgomery was unblockable in the spring? Then again, we gave up 6 sacks in the first half, which is the OL that was trying to block him. We have got to start getting something up front from our DL. Nevertheless, a win is always great no matter how pretty or ugly. It was a very tough game for us and I was impressed with Akron today. They fought us for three bad a half quarters. One last thing, where in the hell was everybody today? We had way better of a crowd with similar weather and kickoff time for Murray State last week. And that crowd was DEAD. Third downs and you could hear Akron's QB before the snap. I know the Doyt doesn't every get loud that often, but damn, the place was asleep today. But I will enjoy the win and look forward to UMass with a great chance at starting 3-0 in the MAC.
GO BG!!!

The Falcons made quite a statement there in the second half. Very pleased to win that big against Akron, given the trouble that the Zips gave Michigan.

As far as the crowd: I've got to think this is the downside of having three games in a row at home. We have some halfway decent fans who aren't quite passionate enough to spend three straight Saturday's at the ballpark. My hunch is that it will be better next weekend.

Great to hear about Greene. I didn't see the game or last and remain somewhat skeptical that he is as complete of a back as Coppett or Givens but I am excited to watch it today and have my mind changed.

What was the attendance.

Speaking of attendance.........there were over 1500 at the volleyball match last night. I wonder how many times men's basketball will draw that many this coming year.

Bowden went out and recruited a BUNCH of kids from major schools ( 2 from Fla.St.- 2 from S.Car.) etc. plus bringing in some JC kids...if you look at the BG blog, he's listed the kids (guys?) who were brought in... only problem with this is it's somewhat of a "stopgap" patch. Nothing will replace 4+ yrs. of solid recruiting...I think BG is a good example of it.

This was a good win against a good opponent. The coaches and the staff deserve credit. They got it done and that's what counts.

Regarding the halftime adjustments, though, I'm glad they made them but isn't that what they were supposed to do? Who would watch that first half and choose not to make adjustments? This is Division IA football and not the local Pop Warner game. Coaches make adjustments to help the team. It's a good thing we didn't get down so far in the first half that we couldn't adjust our way back into it. We need to be ready to roll on the first drive against the teams we'll need to beat going forward and I hope they're prepared for that.
