RedHawks Fire Tredwell
RedHawks Fire Tredwell
Miami fires football coach Don Treadwell after an 0-5 start. Not sure I get schools firing a head coach duirng the season...its not even mid-seson yet. Why don't you let them play the season out and then make the move? Why disrupt everything for the kids/seniors?
Now, if the coach has done something so bad or the situation is so awful that its creating a scene, then that's another story. But why not let Treadwell and Kiffin at USC at least finish what they started with their teams this year? There not going to find a new coach until after the season anyway.

I find myself in an odd position defending the coach of one of our biggest rivals but I think this was a bad move. On roster, the team has 51 ... count them ... 51 freshmen. I don't know why there were so few upper classmen, but 51 freshmen is a foundation for a very solid future. Treadwell recruited those guys and has a plan. The team looks similar to how we looked in 2010, and look where we are now. I kid you not when I say I think that team down south, 0-5 start and all, has a very unfortunately bright future in coming years. Whoever they hire is going to inherit a strong foundation.

Tredwell’s teams have played disgracing poor for quite sometime now. Sad stretch for the program.

MU has been outscored 137-44 so far this year...I am also surprised they let him go now but perhaps they felt they needed to move.

Just having large numbers of freshman doesn't neccesarily mean they will be good.
I love firing coaches in season. Sends the message that you actually care about the program.

No, but the foundation is solid. I knew after 2010, even though the season hurt to watch, that the future was bright. With so many freshmen getting playing time in important positions like QB, CB, all across the O line, all across the D line, and safety, that playing time and experience playing as a unit would carry over year to year and improve the team. I see that in Oxford right now. Whoever takes over as HC next year is going to inherit a program with a foundation for a lot of success.Globetrotter wrote:Just having large numbers of freshman doesn't neccesarily mean they will be good.

Treadwell had to go, they moved to an option offense this year and it simply didn't work. You gotta scrap your plans when you start the season 0-5 and he failed to do that. They have a young team and I believe need to open things up a bit and see what they have playmaker wise, can't get much worse than it already is.

That's interesting, because a few Miami folks who posted on another board I frequent seem to think that his recruiting hasn't been very good. So they don't share your view of the talent level.MarkL wrote:No, but the foundation is solid. I knew after 2010, even though the season hurt to watch, that the future was bright. In my opinion this simply puts uncertainty over the program longer than needed. Two weeks after season is over a new coach could be named. Now you likely wait a month giving your athletes more time to ponder a transfer. Nothing changes drastically until the season is over and nobody worth hiring is available til then.

With everything said, I certainly will not shed a tear over the lack of success in Oxford.

While I agree that this is a good point, it would be tough to argue that firing coach Orr midseason wouldn't have been beneficial.FalconTurf wrote:In my opinion this simply puts uncertainty over the program longer than needed. There is a big difference though. We were at least competitive with most teams in 10. Miami has been slaughtered by EVERYONE.MarkL wrote:No, but the foundation is solid. Perfect example, if you rode it out this far what difference does half a season make?Globetrotter wrote:While I agree that this is a good point, it would be tough to argue that firing coach Orr midseason wouldn't have been beneficial.FalconTurf wrote:In my opinion this simply puts uncertainty over the program longer than needed. Re: RedHawks Fire Tredwell
Firing a college coach at this point is more of a show than an attempt to improve anything. You fired the HC and the OC and promote an assistant so you're down two coaches and the guy you promoted, Mike Bath, to the interim spot has no HC experience and was a coordinator at Ashland for two years. Does anyone think a 36 year-old with a limited resume and a short staff is really going to give them a better chance?
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Re: RedHawks Fire Tredwell
Wow, Mike Bath, forgot about him - good QB. Remember when he gave OSU fits?
He had his heart set on attending Ohio State and thought he was headed that way til something gave way at the last. Ended up at Miami playing behind Sam Ricketts, I believe, until he took over when Ricketts graduated. Good to see he is still there.
