I was shocked Burbrink didn't catch that ball. He makes that play nine out of ten times, I guess that was the "one" but man was it costly.

I don't think not going for two cost us the game in anyway. There were way to many factors after that, that cost us a lot more. Play calling, dropped passes, SEC favored officials...etc

Bottom line was it was a horrible call on 3rd and 10. Not sure if Johnson checked into that play when he recognized the blitz or Ruggiero being Ruggiero with play calling. Also, Burbrink HAS to catch that pass on 4th down. That is much bigger than not going for two. By the way, where was the helmet to helmet hit on that play?! It was blatant and WAY after the ball was already dropped!

All of that being said, I am damn proud of our football team and if there is one positive to come out of this loss is that this team will be in a perfect state of mind going into, IMO, the biggest game of the year in two weeks...PISSED OFF!

DING DING DING DING!!! You win the prize my friend. Exactly right. But everyone wants to sit here and "baby" this team and say how proud we are of them. Give me a break. They choked!! This is a game they should have won. They choked! Playcalling down the stretch was god awful. Nobody could make a play. We are a good MAC team who obviously can't win the games against the big boys like we could before, and that my friends is Dave Clawsn. Good MAC coach but can't win the bigger game. Never could with us. But if your content with competing in the MAC and losing to inferior teams in the out of conference schedule every year, then this is your team. Another opportunity WASTED under Dave Clawsons watch!
WTF? So if we finish 10-2, 8-0 MAC and play for the title, you're pissed?
Comes down to the argument of where one sees this program. Some are satisfied with a MAC championship or close. Some want a Boise State.

Seeing what Clawson has done here, we could be a Boise State in my opinion.

At the moment......yes. That was a game we should have won. We lost because of bad playcalling and inability to make plays down the stretch, which has been our MO under Clausen. I want to be bigger than the MAC like NIU was last year and like we were when Urbie was here. That's the caliber of team we had/have going into this year, or at least we expected. Some people are content with competing in the MAC (we haven't won anything yet). I want to be able to compete with the bigger boys like other MAC schools do, but Clawson fails at that everytime! That's my issue. If wr win the MAC and go to Detroit to play a bowl game, then great. I'm happy. But NIU got to play in the Orange Bowl last year because they could win the MAC AND beat the big boys.............

We played a VERY respectable game today against a good oppenent. Could we have won, yep. And they could have won by more. But that's why the game is played on the field and not on paper. I love that we are a strong second half team but can we try to start playing serious ball in the first quarter and not the third?? It seems to me like we hang on for dear life until half time then come out and play 30 minutes of balls out football. That will cost us. I am fine not going for 2. We had momentum and there was no need to panic. This is a team built for 14 games this season. I am still enjoying the ride.

Hats off to Sutton and the defense for stepping up.

Bicker about the play calls but the defense stepped up once again.

To be perfectly honest I wish they would just stop keeping score and have a panel of judges who would vote who tried the hardest determine who the winner is.

Just a quick question...how many bowls did Urbie get us to? Hell yeah I want BG to be the Boise State of the Midwest. We were an 11 pt underdog and lost by 1 freakin point. It sucks....but we still are in TOTAL control of our destiny to win the MAC East and play for the title.

Here's my take on why we didn't go for two. I'm guessing Clawson felt it was too early to chase the point. I'm not saying I agree with that, but I'm betting that was his take. I'll admit, being it was the third quarter and we had a chance to TIE an SEC team on the road, I was very surprised. But I'm not the head coach and felt he sure as hell knows better than I do. I didn't think of it much after, but when we later missed the FG, I started thinking to myself that not going for two might cost us. Obviously, with no more scoring the rest of the game, yeah, we no doubt should have gone for two because even if we didn't get it, with the final score as things stood, we would have lost by two instead of one, it's still a loss. And if we were down by two instead of one, we still could have had a shot to win it with a FG. Now, we'll never know if we would have got it had we tried. And if we made it, I'm guessing MSU would have kicked a FG themselves instead of going for it late.

In short, Would I have liked us to go for two? Yes, but not going for two didn't cost us a win. It didn't help us any either, but our loss could be contributed to other things such as the penalty that essentially gave them a TD, or the miss FG, etc.

For all of you who said we should have gone for two in the 3rd quarter, you're all barking up the wrong tree. Let's say we pick up the 2 and tie the game at 21. There's no way MSU goes for it on 4th down at our own 8, they kick and they go up 24-21. It's not like getting the 2 would've won us the game guys.

Agreed '24- with not going for 2 and MSU going on 4th Allowed us to be in a position to drive to try and get in to fg range for a WIN
