NHL Lockout!!!!!
I just got a phone call on my answering machine from Ticket Master. I purchased 5 tickets for my family to see Disney on Ice, in St. Louis, in March. Just got a phone call saying that if the NHL Lockout is over, the St Louis Blues will be having additional home games during the time of Disney on Ice and the arean will no longer be available to hold the Disney on Ice. The Disney on Ice event would be cancelled!!!!!
Message went on to say, that money would not be refunded but could be used towards another event at the same venue.
This s$cks. I love hockey, but I am really getting sick of the NHL. Now they may screw over my family. I paid 70.00 a ticket (with fees, over 370.00) to take my two kids and cousin to see this show. Spending a whole weekend in St. Louis and now it may get cancelled. The nerve of the NHL. If this happens I will never EVER go to a Redwing game ever again.

Are you sure? I just surfed around and found nothing about a settlement. All NHL.com and ESPN.com are reporting is that the players and owners are meeting today to discuss a new CBA.
If this is true, I must admit that I am very, very happy. Yes, there are a lot of people who will get screwed by it (like your family w/ Disney on Ice), but in the long-run, I think it is better for hockey if they do not cancel an entire season. Plus, there ain't nothing better than Hockey Night in Canada after watching a BG win at the Ice Arena!
GO SENS!
Disney is evil child-brain-wasing anyways!

They didn't say there was a settlement, it just stated that the league would be meeting within the next week and that if the season would resume that all other events at the venue would be cancelled in order to compensate hockey. I am sorry but you dont cancel a wedding that is booked in a reception hall if someone else wants to book it the same night. Havent they ever heard of, first come, first serve. Also, I am not sure of this, but most venues are not owned by the NHL or by the team. Detroit RedWings have a share in Joe Louis arean, but do not own it. City of Columbus, owns NationWide Arena and even Value City Arena. I am all far hockey coming back but at what expense! I was a season ticket holder for Da Bears, in Chicago, and when they moved to Champaign for two years in order for them to renovate and rebuild soilder field, in order for you to get season tickets for the new stadium you had to pay luxary seat license of 10,000. I did not mind paying that, I understand that, all new stadiums do that. But for the two years of the games played 3 hours from Chicago, if I did not buy season tickets for those 2 years, well I lost my season tickets all together. Thats wrong too. I am just saying the NHL, NFL, heck even the NBA all they are interested in is money. They really dont care whats best for the fans! Sorry I have vented enough. Just tired of getting screwed by raised ticket prices, parking, concessions, etc. Costs .69 cents for 32 pop at Sams. The same 32oz glass of pop at a Pistons game. $4.00, and they use the same 5 gallon syrup. Like I said, I vented enough. That is why I appreciate college sports. 10.00 for a basketball and hockey game is great!!

Nationwide Insurance put up 90% of the Nationwide Arena and OSWho owns the Value City Arena at the Schottenstein Center.bgsufan1972 wrote:City of Columbus, owns NationWide Arena and even Value City Arena.
Columbus voters rejected NUMEROUS arena projects before Natiowide Insurance stepped forward to assume the responsibility of a privately financed facility.

Re: NHL Lockout!!!!!
Sure the monetary loss would stink. But I'm having trouble seeing any other downside to this event being cancelled.bgsufan1972 wrote:Just got a phone call saying that if the NHL Lockout is over, the St Louis Blues will be having additional home games during the time of Disney on Ice and the arean will no longer be available to hold the Disney on Ice. Just joking. My daughter's world would be destroyed too, if we couldn't see Seasame Street Live.bgsufan1972 wrote:I put my wife and kids before any professional or college sport, unless I am taking them to them. I'm sorry '72. I guess I just absolutely abhore Disney and everything that that "evil empire" does. Coupled with my love of hockey, I can't help but pull for hockey. I do feel for your kids, though, and I hope something gets worked out for you.bgsufan1972 wrote:I put my wife and kids before any professional or college sport, unless I am taking them to them. Well they could just leave the whole season cancelled. Perfectly fine for me. I have season tickets to the Red Wings and I could care less if they play this year. The only good thing about having my tickets this year is that I get first dibs on the CCHA playoffs at the Joe, and my seat is center ice.

I guess I'm looking at it this way -- I love Hockey Night in Canada. Next year I will more than likely be a poor grad student in Arizona. So, that means no Hockey Night in Canada. I would like to get to see it some before this year is over, cause God knows it could be years before I ever see it again. I know that is selfish, but I've got to hold onto what I can before I'm permanantly surrounded by sand.
Plus, I'm sick of seeing crappy programming on ESPN and FoxSportsNet. Hockey is much, MUCH better to watch than re-runs of poker tournaments. It is pathetic, btw, that people would waste their time watching a bunch of people wearing sunglasses indoors playing cards. I really feel sorry for the people who do. I mean, buy your own deck of cards...serously....
God do I need to see some hockey...

Progress???

Ehhh, according to this article, the two sides are no closer today than they were two months ago.
'72, what exactly did they tell you? Are they going to start using replacement players or something?
Quite frankly, I don't know why the owners don't just blow up the league and start over altogether. I think they should tell the players association to screw off, and the players that they can come back and play under the league's terms if they wish, or they can continue to play in rural Siberia if they wish. To me the thought of millionaires being protected by a union in any sport is just ridiculous anyways. I would guess that most players would come back either because they wouldn't have a choice or because the money would still be the best around.
This way ticket prices could be cut, allowing greater access to hockey from a broader range of economic situations and it will appear to the public that the owners are standing up to greed. Plus, as far as the league goes, it is my opinion that it exists only to protect the integrity of the league's involvement in the game. Continuing to quarrel with a players association that is making outrageous demands and is unwilling to compromise in any way is not doing that.
Screw em. Drop the f***in' puck.

The message said:
Dear Disney on Ice Ticket owners. As you may or may not be aware the National Hockey League will be trying to end the lockout sometime in closed meetings later this week. If the Lockout is ended, the National Hockey League will be adding additional games to its schedule, therefore forcing cancellations to all events scheduled in the arenas, including the Disney on Ice. If in fact this is the case, tickets WILL NOT be refunded, but rather be exchanged for other events within the venue.
That would be fine, but I live in Ohio and I already had vacation plans in St. Louis. I am not going to go back out there to St. Louis. Unless the Red Wings play St. Louis in Stanley Cup Finals, and that cant happen, same division.
I am glad nothing else has ben settled on yet.

So this is just a big "if" then.
While I do feel for you, you do have to remember that the primary owners and facilitators of most of these arenas around the country are the NHL clubs that occupy them. Events like Disney on Ice are simply renting the space, and I'm sure the primary vendor of the facility always has an override built into all contracts made. As much as it sucks, it really does make sense when you think about it.
