Same thing that happens at the end of the year if we do not make the NCAA tournament - the Athletic Director has a decision to make. Renew Coach Orr's contract or start a coaching search and bring in his own coach.

It is not a given that making the tournament will save the coach's job.
It is not a given that coach will be replaced at the end of the year if he does not make the tourney.
It is a given that the Athletic Director has an important decision to make regarding BGSU Men's Basketball either way.
If he is not replaced by the end of the year barring anything than a bad news bears run with 11 scholarship players to the NCAA championship they should really just shut down the program. It has to be bleeding money. They have alienated die hard fans with years of mismanagement, unlikable coaches, unlikable style of play and unlikable players.

How in the world do you not use all 13 scholarships. Its hilarious. And then you will graduate 2. So we have 9 scholarship players for 2014-2015....Maybe they are slowly disbanding the program.

I had an entire list of Srs who were transferring from big name schools that had one year left of eligibility. Get two of those atleast if you don't want to do long term planning.

Before this thread turns into a argument fest between us all, let's just put the hypothetical question to rest. We are NOT going to win the MAC Tournament. Period. BG has NEVER EVER won it and we're sure as hell not going to win it this year. Hell, the last two years we couldn't even get to Cleveland after dropping a pair of first round home games for crying out loud. This question would be fun to entertain if we had: one, a real team; two, a coach who knew what the hell he was doing; and three, a realistic shot in hell at doing it. But we have none of those things. So in short, we can't even answer a hypothetical question about something that can't even occur. It's football or bust for us this year.

Ha. I've been steeped in college basketball longer than you've been alive, Sonny. If you have some particular divine insight to the inner workings of college sports, you've posted nothing to demonstrate it.

Despite a new arena, Orr's basketball program has completely failed to draw interest from the student body or surrounding community. The attendance figures are already pathetic and trending.

A 19 win season and a MAC Tourney championship would mean little. Nineteens wins in this league, and in a weaker than usual MAC East, would be seen and exceeding expectations once after several under performing campaigns. The tournament would be viewed as happy fluke rather than trend change. We would show up at the NCAA as a 14 seed and, given how Orr's teams have historically responded on a big stage, would likely fail the show stones and confidence to represent well.

What's more, Orr's recent recruiting performance has trailed off considerable, settling for big men scoring and rebounding in single figures and failing to award the two remaining scholarships for this year. This program is known to be dead among Ohio and Michigan coaches. There is nothing about a single MAC Tourney championship that would change this perception and motivate HS coaches to recommend BG over schools like Toledo, Kent, Akron, OU, Oakland, Wright State, etc.

One such season could not establish the perception a genuinely new trend. This scenario is clearly one that would motivate a motivate a new athletic director, with a new arena, who is trying to make a name for himself, to try the waters. There would be no pressure or motivation from any direction to keep Orr in place.

With how bad everyone says this team is and how dead everyone says the program is I'm shocked you or anyone else would believe we would get a 14 seed if we somehow made the NCAA Tournament. I'd assume we'd have play in game written all over us. I'm with 33, end the hypothetical because it isn't happening. There is a better chance of a Jags/Giants Super Bowl then there is of us winning the MAC Tournament in men's basketball

@BleedOrange have you found me a low to mid major school yet in the past 15-20 years that made the NCAA tournament and the school didn't extend/renew their contract?

Personally I don't care to watch the Falcons go to the NCAA then get smacked around like Akron did last year.

Had BG made the NCAA the year they gained the top seed they would have been a 16 and possibly the play in game. They got the worst possible seed in the NIT. BG would never even sniff a 14 seed.
