Bowls....

Post by Falco_peregrinusana »

I know it's early, but Phil Steele's got the Falcons going to the last Little Ceasar's Bowl (as we know it) against Minnesota. That would be awesome... :D

I wouldn't bitch about that...I believe that would mean we are MAC Champs?

At first I thought he was crazy but then Minny pulled off an upset this weekend. I'd love to see BG in the last LC bowl beating a B10 opponent. It would be a nice send off as Detroit jumps in bed with the B10 and gives us the boot.

MAC Champs this year will be going to the GoDaddy Bowl I believe, while the runner up will likely go to Detroit. FWIW, Jerry Palm has BG going back to Idaho vs. Arkansas State.

I believe the GoDaddy has first pick of the MAC schools this year, so the champion doesn't automatically go there, its just Mobile gets to pick before Detroit and Boise. ESPN's bowl projections have had use in Boise most of the year, one has it BG vs UNLV and the other BG vs San Diego State right now. SB Nation (which runs the MAC Hustle Belt site) has us in Mobile vs Western Kentucky

When we went to the GMAC bowl in 07, that bowl had the first pick IIRC. They don't always pick based off who wins the conference, they pick off who is hot at the time (we had the longest winning streak at the time), who will travel well (we traveled well to Mobile the previous time), and what matchup they think would be a great game (two teams that were expected to put up a bunch of points). They decided we were the best team for their bowl game, but of course our team didn't bother playing.

I understand why the Motor City Bowl would have picked Central Michigan the previous years... I would think, however, that they would jump at the chance to pick BG. The last time, and only time, that the Falcons went there, they drew well. I would think with the proximity, they would be a better choice than Northern Illinois or Ball State. With Mobile or Boise, it probably doesn't matter. I would think they would want a team with more national exposure and higher ranking (right now). Does this mean that the Potato Bowl has the second pick??
