Falcons to Play Home-and-Home Series With Boise State

BG travels to Boise in 2005, hosts Broncos in 2006.

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Bowling Green State University Director of Athletics Paul Krebs has announced a home and home football series with Boise State University beginning September 17, 2005 in Boise, Idaho. The Falcons will see the Broncos visit Doyt Perry Stadium on September 23, 2006. Both teams finished the 2003 season ranked in both final top 25 polls, with the Falcons finishing 23rd and the Broncos 16th.

"I think this an outstanding opportunity for both programs," said Krebs. "This should be an attractive matchup between two quality Division I-A programs."

With this series, BGSU will also move a previously agreed upon home and home series with the University of Wyoming to 2007 and 2008 dates of which are to be determined.

BGSU's schedule for the 2005 season will include games at Wisconsin (Sept 3), at Boise State (Sept 17) and home against Temple (Oct 1). The 2006 schedule will include games with Wisconsin (at Cleveland Browns Stadium on Sept. 2) and Boise State (Sept 23).

This is fantastic news!!! This should silence some of the criticism of Krebs' scheduling prowess!

Yes, Boise State does have the blue turf. I'm going to have to start pinching pennies now for next year's season. A marriage and trips to Wisconsin and Boise all in one year is going to be quite expensive! Great job Paul Krebs! This is the type of home-and-home series that we should be able to get against other quality "mid-major" teams on a consistent basis.

Let's hope they don't stiff us like South Florida did. That's another long road trip and hopefully they'll make the return trip. Does anyone know why we don't get the front end of these series at home? Larger schools like Wisconsin I can understand. But why can't we convince Wyoming or Boise St. to come to the Doyt first?

This is excellent news! This means we won't have a I-AA team on the skid for next year! That is going to be a lot of orange on the blue turf though. Our brown should look nice with it as well. lol

This is GREAT news! This should be a great series between two up & coming programs. If both teams remain similar to what they have been the past couple years the final score might be 85-87, but still they'd be good games!

I'm also glad that they only moved the Wyoming series rather than cancelling it altogether. It gives us a future series against another 1A opponent. The next big step we need to take as a program is to no longer have to schedule 1AA schools. Hopefully we have seen the end of that. Getting them off our schedule will make us look better in the public eye, and allow us to progress to the level of getting national respect year in and year out.

Very nice match up, indeed. They run a very similar spread offense as ours. I remember when I was in Iowa two years ago and Iowa State got thumped by them in the Hummanitarian Bowl.

We have Temple coming to the Doyt in '05, so it makes sense to travel to Boise State that year and get that part of the series out of the way. I don't see a conspiracy there.

This is great news. This series has television potential right off the bat.

I'm also glad we still have the Wyoming series set up, too. That will be another good one.

I wonder if our attendance improvement has made it easier to set up one-for-one series with nonconference I-A schools? It can't hurt.

I think the consensus is that this is a great deal for both schools. One angle not mentioned yet that I think needs to be said is that it also gives the MAC a chance to show itself against a similar conference. The Wac, in other peoples views, may be considered a notch above the MAC. If we could take a couple of wins over thier perennial favorite, well, that evalates the MAC as well.

This is indeed great news for both Krebs and the football program. Two big roadies next year and another year under the belt of Omar should make for quite a 2005.
