Sick of this

Post by kdog27 »

17 returning starters last year. 16 or so this year. That is a recipe for a team that plows through their schedule dominating most teams. We have spent 5 years rebuilding for this? Struggle with Akron and UMass, blown out by IU, teased at MSU and now lose to UT for the fourth straight time. I will add that none of these UT teams have been all that great. I'm sorry but I expect better.

There is no excuse for these first halves. This team should be 7-1 and I could make an argument that the IU game could've been won if we came out ready to play.

I have been saying it for 2 years, what has Clawson really accomplished here. He's made a living beating bad teams, a lot of them really bad. I think this team has underachieved every year under him. Every year you can point to at least one close game that we should have won. He has a losing record, 0-2 in bowl games, 1-4 against UT, winless against the BCS and an atrocious record against teams with winning records.

Watch Ball State or NIU sometime. They show up ready to play regardless of opposition. We would probably find a way to let Bowling Green's High school team to score on us first.

For Pete's sake, don't be shocked when bigger schools come after Clawson this offseason and he leaves. And you and everyone on here will undoubtedly whine when he's gone.

I won't be whining. Another average coach would be out the door. That "bigger" school can have him. They will constantly under achieve and never win the big game. He can catch the Orr train out of town for all I care. Bring someone in that can take us to the level NIU is consistently playing at week after week. But keep enjoying your "average" BGSU team. You'll get nothing more than that. It's fun to constantly watch them piss away big games and loss against non conference BCS teams that they should beat, at least considering our talent level.

Why will they be calling him? Will they be salivating over his 28-31 record? Keep kidding yourself that this is a good FBS coach. Yay we can beat Massachusetts

I remind myself occasionally Clawson was fired, yes fired, at Tennessee. I think he does do a lot of things well but, will continue to dream about the all-stars: Nick Saban, Gary Pinkel, U Meyer or even Don Nehlen. Recruiting is where he has fallen short in my eyes. Toledo is getting the better of us because they are getting better talent.

I just can't grasp why this team is not ready to go from the opening kickoff...just baffling.

Agreed. The opening drive looked promoting yesterday, then ended with a drop by Burbrink - same way as the MSU game ended. I had a bad feeling that was going to be a telling sign of things to come for our day. I guess it sort of was. But I totally agree about these starts, I can't understand what is going on. And in the postgame yesterday, Clawson said the same thing. Hell, if they don't know why, who does? We knew if they didn't get it fixed it would cost us. And yesterday it finally bit us right in the ass.

It baffles me that he cannot even get them ready to play before the biggest games on the schedule. Its one thing to come out flat against Murray state but against Indiana, msu, and Toledo too!? How is that possible.

In ready for fresh blood in the program.

Listen. Clawson has done a good job doing what he was brought here to do. Rebuild the program.

I just don't think he can get it over the hump.

2 years ago, the 5-7 year he had the chance on 2 ESPN prime time games and a marginal Toledo team at home.

Had Toledo on the ropes. Got man handled in the 2nd half.
OU was a choke job.
Got blasted by NIU.
Clawson Excuse- we were young.

Last year he had the chance against Kent. Couldn't do it.
Chance against San Jose St, couldn't do it.
Clawson Excuse- we were learning how to win.

This year.
Chance against Indiana, couldn't do it. Got killed.
Chance against Mississippi State, couldn't do it. Came out clueless in the 1st half.
Chance against Toledo, couldn't do it. Again, came out just looking clueless in the 1st half. 4th straight loss to the game fans care most about.
Clawson excuse- ??? I'm not sure what he contributes this year to.

Remaining schedule,
Miami, Ohio, EMU, Buffalo.

This team will get to 7 wins at the very least. Just getting their cleats on the right foot is an accomplishment for Miami and EMU, this year.

It's going to take beating both OU and Buffalo to win the East. I don't see this team coming out on a Tuesday night in front of what will most likely be an empty stadium and beating a healthy OU. Nor do I think they can go on the road and beat, Buffalo. Who may be playing the best football in the conference right now.

I'll be there November 12th and hopefully in Detroit. I hope this team rallies around each other and embraces the fact no one thinks they can win a big game and proves everyone wrong. But given the track record. I don't think they will.

The funny thing is, the Murray State game was about the only one we did come out in the first half ready. The first quarter was slow, but the second quarter we got it going. But that could also have been attributed to the weak opponent.

I think the last couple weeks have really exposed our problems big time. Winning can sometimes mask them or cover them up. We all know what most of them were, but after a pair of tough losses and especially the way we lost yesterday, it causes those problems to boil to the surface. This season of promise is teetering on falling completely apart. A few weeks ago we were 5-1 and undefeated in the MAC and felt primed to make a run. After two kicks to the guy, we're one punch away from falling to our knees. This team needs to respond or we're in for another collapse and disappointing season.

In previous weeks our slow start on offense was offset by excellent play on defense. Defense was out of sync early too. Was it due to the bye week, the speed of the opposing offense, not being mentally prepped, all of the above? I don't know but it cost the game. This cannot continue. Ohio may be a better team than what we saw Saturday as they are hitting stride right now and hard to tell about Buffalo.

If we don't play our asses of four four full quarters against either Ohio or Buffalo, we WILL lose. Period. We might be able to get away with our type of play vs Miami or EMU, but it's not gonna work against OU or UB.

Last year's 37-0 loss at Virginia Tech was as disgraceful as an loss we have suffered in the last ten years in my estimation.

I see your point, but a loss such as that one doesn't bother me much at all. Why? Because they kicked our ass and were the better team. There was no doubt about it. Same with the 55-10 loss at West Virginia, the 65-21 loss to Michigan, etc. It's losing games like this one to Toledo that eats me alive. Why? Because we had and blew so many chances at it. If Toledo came in and stomped us by four or five TD's or something, yeah, it would still have sucked to have lost. But not as bad as after losing by 3 in the final minute after allowing a TD facing a 3rd and 26, after battling back from down 21-0, with penalties that gave them points and took points away from us, the drops that ended our scoring chances, etc.
