I would never say Jay was a great player, but he was a good, solid player. If he was playing on this year's team he'd be our best player. But that's not saying much. Jay was a steady two beside Antonio forming arguably the MAC's best backcourt their last two years. But man did Jay struggle when we needed him most in the MAC Tournament his senior year. He just couldn't knock down an outside shot. But then again, that's BG in the MAC Tournament.....

I don't agree that Jay Larranaga would be our best player. He'd be our most reliable scorer and shooter, though. Jay benefited from playing with far better guards than we've had under Orr.

Tons of head coaching experience. Five ncaa births.
Hard to pull guys like him out of the South.

Wild suspicion: The new coach has already been identified but is being kept secret until after the season. This new coach may be behind the recruitment of Bernard Edwards from FL. Just a wild thought. (Notice in the link posted by commonsense there was no reference to Orr, the assistants, the current players, or "the system" - just a visit to BG. Also, this news never made it to the local press.) Shrug. :)

Yeah...great resume, but in 30 years of coaching at the collegiate level he's spent one year outside of NC.

David Greer? Or is he never going to leave Wayne State

The opportunity to be a head coach and if he has a connection to our AD is what I was speculating. And both are just speculations. Great points about wanting to stay in the South.

A few of the candidates on here are not realistic. I think Anthony Stacey would be a great fit! Boals is the guy from OSU right? He played at OU and I think he's waiting to take that job when/if it becomes available. If he's gonna take a job it will probably be that one.

A few of the candidates are not realistic?..... and then you want to take a high school head coach and let him take over the program?

OU was just open before last season and he didn't get it. I have no problem with Anthony Stacy being on the staff as an assistant, but there is no way he should be the head coach. Let him be a college assistant for some years first to get the needed experience

Jay Larranaga is not realistic. I don't care about a resume I want someone to come in that can turn this program around. We have had good players but IMO we haven't had a coach that has the right vision and passion to really make a difference.

If they could get Boals, BG would be in great shape. He is a terrific recruiter, and an energetic presence on the sideline. The players love him, and he's especially good at developing big men.

I would think BG would be exactly the kind of job he'd be interested in, if he is looking to leave OSU -- and Thad Matta has been churning out pretty good assistants that become head coaches for a while now.

Loved David Greer as a player. Maybe my all-time favorite BG player. But I think time may have passed for him or Greg Kampe (Oakland) to return to BG as a coach.

I am watching NC State against Carolina right now, and am NOT excited about anything State is doing. Don't know as I would be too excited about anyone from their staff.
