Lol, really? Not even an ESPN network? Unbelievable.
Oh and that quote from BG is totally LAME. trying to put some "exclusively" spin on it, like this is an honor or something. You got totally DISSED, guys. Don't bother hyping ESPN3's garbage for them when they just got done screwing you over.

I swear, sometimes our athletic department has no brains and no balls.
To be fair what is the athletic department suppose to do, it was the conference that screwed us and all the other MAC schools over by agreeing to the terms that only one of the games would be seen on national TV. It also probably didn't help the cause that OU lost to Buffalo, making Buffalo/Toledo more attractive.

Had Ohio beaten Buffalo last night, the games would have been flipped for TV coverage.

I think the "exclusively on ESPN3" bit is meant to differentiate this game from others that are on ESPN3 and also made available to regional cable partners......I think.

Any way..if you can figure out how to get your computer to use your TV as a monitor....the game is on TV. If you don't have ESPN3...it might be streamed on a site like frontrow or something. poke around a bit, you'll find it.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

After this year, it looks like we've got 3 more years of this which is unfortunate given the recent proliferation of new sports networks. It would have been a great time to negotiate a contract given all these networks need content. How many times can they show replays of the World Series of Poker, Tour de France, Formula 1 and Tito Ortiz?

Thank you Mr. Chryst for locking us into a ridiculous below-market commitment for 8 years right before you quit. Hope you are serving your current clients better than this. :vom:

Apparently, this alleged dialogue earlier this year didn't result in much substance: http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootbal ... ights-deal

As much as I hate to say it, the MAC is the bottom of the barrel and will always be that way. It burns me that we sell out for a slim chance to be on t.v. and screw so many of us out of town fans. I would NEVER buy season tickets because of this crap. On the other hand, we always seem to lose one of these games and it always takes us out of contention to be conference champs. So maybe i'm lucky I can't make the game.

How about saying nothing? Agree that it is probably the conference that screwed BG over because the contract is with the conference, but that doesn't mean you have to go out of your way to promote something that hurts you. And there's no question that if Ohio wins, the BG-Ohio game is on "regular" TV...but you can't tell me there isn't room for both games.

In my opinion we are forced to play Ohio on Tuesday because they played Buffalo on Tuesday the week before us and Kent the Tuesday after they play @BG. It is not likely that you will play 4 days after a game or 3 days before the next game. The whole conference schedule hinges on the 1 or 2 TV games per week.

Bad attendance, makes the academic side for student-athletes more difficult and Saturday is College Football Day. The only time to play on a different day is over Thanksgiving weekend and bowls between Christmas and New Years.
I proudly chose to be a Falcon and a Falcon I will remain until the end.

If we're going to be scheduled to a Tuesday night to play on TV, that's fine. I get it and there are some benefits to it. But if we're scheduled to a Tuesday night to not be on TV. If you look at the rest of the MAC mid-week games where there is more than one MAC game being played including last night, the choice is between ESPN2 or ESPNU, except for next Tuesday night. It's BS! I'm still going to the game in person, but it's BS.

From ESPN: "(ESPN3) is currently available to 83 million homes at no additional cost to fans who receive their high-speed Internet connection or video subscription from an affiliated service provider. The network is also available at no cost to approximately 21 million U.S. college students and U.S.-based military personnel via computers connected to on-campus educational networks and on-base military networks."

ESPNU is available in 73.9M households, by comparison.

I just don't get the outrage. If all broadcast content wasn't shifting online anyway, I'd be upset with this too. BGSU is a part of the Mid-American Conference and that means something. There are going to be times where one or more institutions get slighted for the overall betterment of the league. I recall a women's basketball first round tournament game starting at 9 am or 10 am to fit an entire schedule into Quicken Loans Arena.

As was stated a few posts above, BG would have likely been chosen for ESPNU if OU had won at Buffalo. Blame Athens!

This isn't exactly on point, but a pretty good perspective:

I remember when the only time Bowling Green had a chance to get on national TV was by winning the conference -- and even then it was only a game on SportsChannel.

This stings a bit, but, we just have to suck it up.

Yeah but we probably didn't play the entire month of November on weeknights either back then.

I'm sorry, but these weeknight games have really helped ruin MAC football for me. Nobody watches them (don't fool yourselves, the ratings are probably worse than those WSOP reruns), and they aren't even guaranteed to be televised.

ESPN and the BCS have absolutely destroyed college football...I"d rather not bend over and thank them for ruining the sport.

Yup.

Weekday games destroy attendance. The only rationale to play them is for national television exposure, not the possibility of national television exposure. Coaches tolerate the disruption because they hope recruits will be flipping around the sports channels and see the team.

ESPN3 is availible in 83 million homes. Subtract people who are actually aware of this availibility, care about sports, care about football, know how to use it, know how and are willing to slodge through the registration process, want to see MAC football specifically and are willing to invest 3 hours in front of a tablet or phone to view it in the evening and you're down to Jeremy Guy and 6 of his buddies.

BG and Ohio should put out a joint statement apologizing to the fans for the conference's error in subjecting them to this.

The signs stuck in the grass around campus say we're being televised nationally on ESPN. Did things change? Or, did they make these signs way too far in advance?

No. The Falcons played on Saturdays in November, usually before crowds that are almost as thin as ones BG now draws for these weeknight games. Moreover, games were completely unavailable outside of Northwest Ohio unless you were willing to dial into a telephone system to listen to the radio feed at about $1 per minute.
