5th in Scoring Defense
The BG defense is now allowing only 15.1 points per game, they're also 12th in yards allowed per game at 325. Amazing stats considering the loss of Jones and the injuries suffered to Martin all season.
The longer the walk, the farther you crawl.
Re: 5th in Scoring Defense
Our defense has been outstanding the past two years. Outside of Kent St. last year and Indiana this year (and first half of the Toledo game) they have been just as solid. It seems now both sides of the ball are playing with a lot of confidence now and we are as balanced as we can be on offense with Greene running like a madman and incorporating our TEs more into the passing game.
I thought we were were toast after the Toledo game...wasn't overly impressed with the Miami game, but after what I saw last night, we can play with anyone in the MAC!!

6 seniors and 5 redshirt juniors make up the starting lineup which has run the same system with the same coordinator for 5 years. That has to be a rarity.
They play like maniacs and having a more potent offense than last year has helped immensely.

The tackling by our secondary has improved immensely the past few years...OU had opportunities on some of those WR screens they ran last night, but our DB's and rover consistently shed the blockers and shut them down. Kudos to secondary coach Nick Monroe...who has also done a heck of a job recruiting in Florida
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

Agreed 100% and we were commenting on that throughout the first half. There were a number of plays where OU got the ball in the hands of the guy they wanted to have the ball, and they had a hat on a hat in front of him. It didn't matter as our secondary seemed to easily shed the blocks and make the plays. It was uncanny how often plays that looked like they were going to go for 5-8 yards ended up going for 0-1.Flipper wrote:The tackling by our secondary has improved immensely the past few years...OU had opportunities on some of those WR screens they ran last night, but our DB's and rover consistently shed the blockers and shut them down. The defense was flat out money last night. So awesome to see them play that way in a big game against a team competing for the conference.

Just saw an article that Elko will be sought after by many BCS schools this offseason. I wonder if Clawson stays if he decides to stay as well.

Re: 5th in Scoring Defense
BG gave him a raise this year after he was pursued by Marshall for their defensive coordinator position. Still think he may be a coach in waiting for BG if Clawson moves on.jpfalcon09 wrote:Just saw an article that Elko will be sought after by many BCS schools this offseason. Dee fense! Excellent job. We lose some great student-athletes on that side of the ball to graduation. But getting two keys back in healthy condition who have either missed the whole year or huge chunks will be helpful. Everybody knows Gabe Martin is tough and good. He'll get back. Darrel Hunter is more instant help at corner. He can cover; he can tackle. We have some redshirting help in a couple spots coming in also. I think our defense will still be very strong, but we will miss Gates, Swan, Truss, Ouellet and others. We have some "inspiration" as well as talent in that group heading out. But it happens every year. Next group up!
