Talk about a HUGE opportunity in the MAC Championship for the Falcons if we can beat Buffalo. We'll very likely get a chance to compete for a MAC Championship against both an undefeated and ranked team (as long as NIU beats WMU which I can't image not happening). Man do I want a shot at them!!!

Given our recent history, I just hope we get past Buffalo to win the East to represent!! We did a piss poor job defending the zone read with Owens in the UT game and that concerns me with Lynch. He is unbelievable!!

Also - if we go to the MACC, are we guaranteed to lose Clawson?? Win or lose, he will be a hot name in the coaching circles!!

Don't get me wrong with the pessimism, I still want to make that game in the worst way, just feel it's a no win situation.

You beat NIU by loading up the box and going man coverage. Stopping Lynch's running ability stalls that offense as you saw in the first half.

It's easier said than done as they haven't lost a MAC game in nearly 3 seasons. Stopping him for 4 quarters is quite a task. We're not good against QBs like this one either. ...gots to beat Buffalo before I worry about this though.

I think he'd be gone. If we beat Buffalo, assuming we also beat EMU, that would be 9 wins and a berth in the conference championship. So, Clawson would have gone from 2 wins to 5 to 8 to 9 and possibly up to as many as 11. I think that would be enough for someone to take him.

I know you guys seem to be focused on UB....but PLEASE, let's not forget we have a game to play THIS Sat. first. I've always been a believer in "one game at a time". I know our coaches preach this to the kids...but that doesn't always sink in. Do I think we'll beat EMU? Yeah, but if you listened to Clawson's presser, he mentions that they've played..... NIU, UT, Ball St., Buffalo, Penn St. and now US... That's one heck of a schedule for any team.
And I knew Stan Parrish when he was coaching at Parma HS outside of Cleve. He's a solid coach who'll have his kids ready to play...We'd better be ready too and not worry about a game on the following weekend.

I don't disagree with what you are saying but the EMU game really doesn't matter in terms of getting to the MACC game. Regardless of what happens on Saturday, if we beat UB next week, we play NIU for the MAC title. I think that is why there is so much discussion about beating Buffalo. That is the game that matters at this point in having an opportunity to win a MAC Championship. With that being said here's to an impressive win on Saturday and lots of momentum going into Buffalo.

What is this Buffalo team everyone talks about?

There is only one game on the radar and that is against Eastern Michigan University.

We don't suit up and play......so it's ok if we look past EMU.

I think even if I was a player I would have a very hard time focusing on EMU this week. This is a game that honestly, outside of our ending W/L record, means absolutely nil, and you have an absolutely enormous, winner take all game against Buffalo 6 days later. I mean sure, I would still practice hard and do all of the normal stuff to prepare, but even the most dedicated of people would admit that it's hard to give your mental 100% in a situation where you know the end result isn't of great importance. It's just natural human instinct.

For that reason I expect this game to play out a little more like Akron or Umass as opposed to Miami or Ohio...but we still win in any case.

If you look at it that way, it means even less to EMU.

If Clawson wins the next two games, some on this board say another program will surely snatch him up.

If Clawson loses either of the next two games, some in this board say he should be fired.

Tough crowd. Talk about damned if you do and damned if you don't.

I think Clawson will be here next year no matter what. I'm fine with that. And I'd rather talk about more pressing issues -- such as whether Eastern Michigan's football program would be a good fit in the Missouri Valley.

Pete Thamel at SI wrote a story speculating about possible coaching moves.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/colleg ... on-primer/

Clawson is mentioned for Virginia, Wake Forest and Kansas. All three are awful, awful jobs at the bottom of their respective leagues where it's extremely difficult to win.

Something tells me that the current crop of hot MAC coaches have learned a lesson from the failures of Beckman, Hazell and Doeren and will hold out for better opportunities unless they just want the payday. BG is a tough place to walk away from right now. The defense will still be good, the top offensive skill players are sophomores or younger and he's making 400K+ where 400K goes pretty far in a wonderful, family-centered community to boot.

My co-worker knows the Clawson family well and their kids have expressed no interest in wanting to move. They love the area and they have made friends in school here. May be a factor into Dave's decision making.
