Lights at softball field
Lights at softball field
Drove past the softball field today and it looked liked they are about to put lights up. Any idea if baseball is going to get them too???

Lee Meserve donated for the softball field. A men's soccer alum donated for Cochrane Field.

Absolutely pathetic!
For all the success the baseball program has had and they get a thanks by lights going to a newer program across the street and then softball get them. Donors, donors........... baseball has wanted lights for decades. Title 9 has nothing to do with this............if anything it's reverse Title 9 because the equal sport is not getting that same thing.

Re: Lights at softball field
My guess is that field turf is probably a bigger priority for baseball than lights. Seems like any decent program in the north is adding the field turf. Lights would be cool though for late in the season when the weather warms up. I'd be all for a little night baseball.
Count me in as hoping Chris Kingston actually supports baseball unlike GC. I would be very interested to see what Coach Schmitz could do with an actual stadium (similar to Miami, Central Michigan, Kent, Western Michigan, Ohio, etc). and 12 scholarships like everyone else. We keep dumping all this money in our "revenue" sports and see mediocre results. Why not commit money to our best coach who actually wins championships and be really good in baseball? I'd like to see baseball rewarded for their success, it is long overdue.

One of Kingston's goals when he came in was to make sure every sport was fully funded.

"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Re: Lights at softball field
You guys are pathetic! I hope you feel good tearing down another sport to "support" your own. Softball went out and found someone to fund this project, soccer did the same. I would love nothing more than to have a great baseball stadium with lights, field turf, the maximum amount of scholarships, and peanuts. BUT, I refuse to deny another program their ability to raise funds to complete a project. The new AD will make this a different department than we have had in the recent past. Let's try to move on and do what we can to help without getting into an attitude of "they don't deserve money/support unless we get the same thing and more."

Re: Lights at softball field
I think you are missing the point of some of the complaints above. Everyone wants to see the "best" facilities for all of our sports. Soccer does not really apply, because both the men and women use the same facility for games, even though the men's program raised the LARGE %, if not all of the funds for the field improvements. I can tell you that baseball has had projects (fund raising) started in the past, only to be put on hold by the administration, because they did not have funds to make equal $$ improvements to the softball facility. Things have changed to some extent now. "If you can raise the funds, you can build it."
