Buffalo expecting over 30,000 for BG game

Post by BGSU33 »

Todd Garzarelli, UB’s Senior Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs, said 24,000 tickets have been sold for the game and another 6,000 are out through a promotion run in conjunction with the Turkey Trot.

I hope BG gets some people up there too. Huge game!

I highly doubt anywhere near that many actually show up. Wouldn't surprise me if it is a big empty stadium. We will see ...

So, in essence, they are giving you a ticket if you run the Turkey Trot. It is guaranteed to have a redemption rate of .0000001%. This will look like a normal Tuesday night game.

So, in essence... no. If you registered for the race by two weeks ago, you could request 2 tickets along with your entry. So, only those who registered early and requested tickets got them.

I requested two and gave them to friends who don't normally make games - they are really excited for this one.

Nice that Buffalo all but negated their home field advantage so their athletic director could build his resume by running a silly NFL stadium promotion.

So, two tickets will be used. You could request tickets. The majority of runners will not request them. This would be the same in Kalamazoo, Toledo, Crackron, Oxford, Muncie or any other MAC town.

That 6,000 was the number requested by participants (the race sold out at 14,000 entrants 2 weeks ago), it isn't just a bunch of tickets thrown on a table at the start line. If it's a nice day on Friday, a large portion of those could be butts in the seats. As of now, it looks to be a gorgeous day for football. 30's, sunny, light breeze and a chance of snow.

24000 sold already is impressive. Should be a nice home crowd for the Bulls.

I hope there's a nice crowd. Its a big game on national TV, anything to make the conference look good is a plus. I think many of us here though have seen what black Friday does to MAC football crowds and it isn't pretty.

Meh, I don't want anything that gives Buffalo an advantage. If everyone in that city decided to go shopping and the only people in the stadium were the players, the bands and BG fans, I'd be just fine with it.

What home field advantage exists in a MAC campus stadium on the day after thanksgiving?

This is not like playing a game half way across the state its moving the venue about 20-25 minutes south of campus to a parking lot/stadium where most football fans in Buffalo already have a favorite tailgating spot. I don't expect 30K but I also don't think we will have fewer fans at the Ralph than we would have drawn at UB stadium.

White's goal here is brand awareness. You can play a throw away game on a campus where everyone went home or you can play a throw away game at the most popular sporting facility in Buffalo. While the attendance will probably be about the same either way the media has been talking up the UB game which is unusual in the Buffalo sporting sections.

The fact the Bills are having a horrid season and are in Toronto for a "home game" this week might help as well.

Bull Run is right on this one.

I listen to Buffalo sports talk radio on my drive home from work every night. They were talking about this game in their sports updates yesterday. Specifically the tie-in with Roswell Park cancer center and $8 of each ticket going to charity.

There's no downside to UB in playing this game at the Ralph.

24,000-30,000 at your stadium would be louder and tougher on the opponent than 24,000-30,000 in a 73,000 seat stadium. Be careful when White lectures about brand awareness and other platitudes he got from a Jim Collins seminar. The only brand he cares about making people aware of is his own, and by people I mean BCS athletic director search committees.
