We could beat NIU.....
Re: We could beat NIU.....
BG has enough defense to beat NIU. The question will be this: will the coaches open up the offense enough (and early enough in the game) so the Falcons have a chance to win the game?
Playing too conservative for a half like they did against Buffalo could be fatal against a team like NIU unless the defense plays better against Lynch and that offense than just about any other team has this season.
What we don't want to happen is for NIU to get a big lead and BG be forced into a catch up game.
This is going to be an epic battle between the league's best offense and its best defense. The key for BG is obviously not allowing Lynch to escape and run wild. If he's contained and forced to throw the fall, he's beatable.
Roll Along!

Re: We could beat NIU.....
NIU has the same issues scheduling that any other MAC team does. With very few exceptions, noone wants to play us at our own stadiums. Toledo probably does the best at attracting some BCS teams to visit. I have no problem with NIU's scheduling...and they are the best in the MAC until someone proves otherwise. The Iowa win might be the best OOC win for the MAC this year.
I do think we can beat them. They might be the best MAC team but they are not unbeatable. We'll need some good time eating offense(with points) and great defense (bend but don't break) forcing kicks rather than allowing TDs. Winning the TO battle would certainly help as well.

Iowa was a good win. Not sure if this is right but it seems like it, radio said Iowa's 4 losses are to teams with a combined 42-3 record.

Losses in (). Iowa lost to NIU(0), OSU(0), MSU(1,ND), Wisconsin(2..1 disputed,ASU and the other to OSU).

Iowa is tough....NIU is for real and I'm looking forward to seeing how we match up with them
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Re: We could beat NIU.....
What a challenge and opportunity for our guys. NIU is making its fourth consecutive MAC Championship game, is undefeated and ranked in the Top-25. Hey, we beat them the last time we faced them ranked and undefeated. Let's do it again! GO BG!!!
GO BG!!!
Re: We could beat NIU.....
I have to wonder what the folks in the media, the Phil Steeles, etc will give us in terms of media coverage and chances at winning. My instinct is every article will be all about NIU and Lynch with a one paragraph blurb about BG. I'm guessing nobody will give us a real chance.
I like it that way. The win will be even sweeter.

Mark,
Well, if the Cleve. PD is any example of the "coverage" we'll receive...you're gonna probably be "spot on"..... the article the PD printed about BG-UB game must've been about 4 inches long, wiith absolutely NO details or stats. They did give Akron a good write up, which is understandle, and the overall MAC coverage this year has been better than most, but the article was a pathetic excuse for reporting, especially since it was a day game, so they couldn't use their usual " it was too late for us to print more" routine.

I believe the same thing happened the last time a 12-0 MAC West champion with a much talked about QB entered for Ford Field for the MAC Title game. Knowing the result of that I'm fine with it happening againMarkL wrote:I have to wonder what the folks in the media, the Phil Steeles, etc will give us in terms of media coverage and chances at winning. Re: We could beat NIU.....
FWIW, NIU opened a 3 point favorite in Vegas so BG is getting some respect in that regard. I think the whole BCS situation though is going to largely overshadow BG in this game. The media types will likely just highlight the matchup of Lynch vs. the BG defense.
The longer the walk, the farther you crawl.
Re: We could beat NIU.....
We must make Lynch beat us with his arm. If he does, so be it. But we can't allow him to run for 321 rushing yards while passing for just 39 like he did last week. I know he can also throw, but we need to assign someone on his ass at all times. I fully expect Elko to defend him like we did Tettleton last year after he routinely hurt us making plays with his feet the previous two seasons.
GO BG!!!

Sorry but you will not beat NIU...
Still, you had a good season. I wish I could say the same about Toledo but we suck...

Re: We could beat NIU.....
I sent Elton Alexander of the Plain Dealer an email about this and so far I haven't heard back. It was literally one sentence. Obviously, Kent State and Akron get the coverage here bot come on. That was for the East title.Class of 61 wrote:MarkL wrote:I have to wonder what the folks in the media, the Phil Steeles, etc will give us in terms of media coverage and chances at winning. You beat just about everybody in conference play. Only one loss, really good season when you only have one conference loss.
