Re: Wake forest
Yeah, the Boise magic doesn't seem to translate outside of Boise.
Regarding Clawson, he strikes me as an analytical guy. If anyone is thinking 3-4 moves ahead and can insulate themselves from the frenzy of the moment it is him. Still, since he's arrived at BG every head football coaching position has changed except Ohio and the person who hired him is glad-handing people in Cincinnati.
I keep coming back to two things, though:
1) We'll have an amazing team coming back next year
2) He can still do better than Wake and UConn

According to Footballscoop.com, Ball State's Pete Lembo and Bowling Green's Dave Clawson appear to be top candidates for Wake Forest.

With each interview he goes on he deserves a raise. Will we be able to give it with the basketball and faculty situations?

Re: Wake forest
In my opinion, Wake Forest would not be as terrible of a job as people think. Clawson is obviously a program builder and to be honest, the ACC is really not that great. I mean, Duke is going to the championship this year. So its not out of the question that Wake Forest couldn't improve with him. Granted, Clemson and FSU would probably prevent Wake from making the title game under Clawson. But Syracuse, NC State, Boston College and a couple cross over games against teams like Virginia, Pitt, UNC -- are all winnable games. If he could rebuild that team to even a consistent 8-win team, he could probably elevate himself into a higher profile job. Oh, and he wold get paid 4X more than what BG is currently paying him. I agree that he can do better, however. But it certainly makes sense in a lot of ways and I could see him taking the job.
Re: Wake forest
I think Boise has reached it's ceiling under Petersen. They are never going get 4 and 5 star recruits even with all the winning. I'm sure the job has become stale the last couple years with them out of the spotlight. It's not as if Washington is a horrible destination where you can't win. They were a perennial top ten team in the 90s. The right coach there could steal plenty of recruits from Oregon, WSU and OSU. Plus he's obviously familiar with that region. I hope he does well. I think he rode the Boise train longer then 99% of others coaches would have.bgsufalcon24 wrote:WOW. Talk about a downgrade in virtually every way except for $. Re: Wake forest
I agree on that and see it like when Curt Miller left BG for Indiana. There is only so much winning you can do at a BG or Boise and soon you can no longer top what you did in the past. Also its not like Peterson is taking over a mess like Sarkisian did when he took that job, having to rebuild after the Neuheisel firing and the disastrous Willingham era. Also its not like Boise is winning as much as they were a few years back. Both Boise and Washington had the same 8-4 records this year, Washington crushed Boise when the two played this season, and Boise didn't even win their division in the Mountain West. I think leaving the Northwest region for a more name job would have been a bad move for Peterson, but staying in the area I think was a good move. I will be interested to see what Boise's move is, assistant from within, assistant from a bigger school, or winning head coach from a smaller conference.kdog27 wrote:I think Boise has reached it's ceiling under Petersen. Re: Wake forest
I fear with this great win tonight, Clawson is definitely gone. But you know what? I'll trade a MAC title for a new coach any day of the week. BG just doesn't win them very often. It's wonderful that they were able to do it in such an impressive fashion over NIU.
Plus, Clawson leaves BG in great shape, if he does leave. The team is still relatively young and very talented. Whoever gets the job will not have to go through a lot of growing pains, which makes the job much more attractive than it was when Clawson took it.
So Coach, if this was your last MAC game (or your last game): THANK YOU. You showed in the end that you and your staff had what it took to win it all -- and against a team basically everyone picked to win the MAC and go back to the BCS this year.
Thanks for ending the football title drought at BG. We seem to go too damn long between getting trophies in the men's sports these days, so this one was really, really satisfying.

Wasn't there rumors he turned down a job last year
Re: Wake forest
If he leaves, I think Clawson will leave BG just the way Urban did...both brought back a winning culture and left the program in much better shape than where they found it!Globetrotter wrote:Much better for him to leave the way he will ten the way urban Meyer left. Or Brandon.

Clawson still hasn't proven that he can win a close game....

Man, based on this thread I swear Clawson is being introduced at Wake Forest right now or something ...

I know...Lembo is a strong candidate with five years as a HC in North Carolina. I still think he's the guy there...
