For myself and the team I hope it's Mobile. If we go to Detroit I'll be happy too because they'll get better support and likely a better matchup.

Yeah GoDaddy is a better game than the LCB....and the chance to stick it to the SunBelt is attractive. For selfish reasons...I'd prefer Detroit because I can make a day trip on the 26th a hell of a lot easier than traveling to Mobile after Christmas break is done...

In Mobile, the opponent will be Arkansas State. In Detroit, it might be Syracuse or Pittsburgh. Both would be fun, but I definitely like the idea of us matched against the ACC.

It will be interesting to see if the MAC sends a team to San Diego and St. Pete. If so: Which team?

I am biased, but I certainly hope we get another shot at a BCS school in Detroit on the 26th, when it will actually get us the exposure that the MAC CHAMPS deserve!!! Bring on Pittsburg for another beating!!!

Mobile may be fun, but I am not really that excited about a game against Arkansas State on Jan 5. Maybe we could have a fun parade down Wooster to celebrate the MAC CHAMPIONSHIP, for those of us who need that fix.

Another problem with the GoDaddy Bowl that I just realized.....because it's right before the final BCS game you know the announce crew is going to spend every spare moment dissecting that match up. "Travis Greene picks up 15 on the carry...hey do you think Florida State will be able to run like that on Auburn?" . It will nauseating to sit through...

Not sure its a good economic decision for the team to go to a bowl. This game will cost BGSU money to go play in. Any where from high 5 figures in to the six figures. It may just be best to be content with a MAC Championship. I sure hope the University provides transparency on this, as programs were on the chopping block just recently and it would not be fair or reasonable to have shell out 100k or like in 2010 where Missouri spent $460k more than conference took in as a whole to go bowling. To many bowls, with to low a payout, spread among to many schools in a conference, leave schools in a 7-10 split with a 135 average....not good odds.
Now if thing have changed, where by all the participating teams expenses are paid for by the bowl take, before its died up, its worth while. Is that the case?

Lets just hope the transparency is there, as we are not talking a few thousand dollars here, and if they cant afford to go, its teaching economic responsibility. Debt is not wealth, and MAC Championship over NIU is bigger than any team or bowl game this school is allowed to play in.

I highly, highly doubt that Bowling Green would lose money playing in a bowl game.

My understanding is that the MAC allows bowl participants to pay for reasonable expenses, including lodging and travel, before any left over money from bowl payouts is distributed to the rest of the league.

The MAC isn't making much money playing in bowl games. But it isn't losing money, either. The bowl payouts are enough to cover reasonable expenses for the participants.

I just hate how late in the bowl season that game is, along with what you just mentioned. I don't want to wait that long to see us play our game. I want Detroit because I like the date of the game, its during the time I want to be in a bowl (between Christmas and New Years) and its the only one I would be able to make. I hope the new bowls being created that the MAC is apart of doesn't have such a late date like the GoDaddy Bowl

Just think...Dave Clawson gets hired for a new gig and we promote Mike Elko...that gives Mike Elko a number of practices and a game to get ready for next year...bowl appearance strengthen the ties between the University and alums....Alums don't follow academics, they don't care if a member of the English department wrote the definitive analysis of the Bronte sisters use of the word "tangy", no matter how much discussion it spurred amongst the 55 people who heard of it...they care if the football team is on TV over the holidays and that might lead them to come back for a game next year and maybe...just aybe..throw a few dollars towards the good ol Alma Mater.

But yeah...you go ahead and take up the killjoy "we shouldn't spend any money on this" line of thinking the egg heads spouted last year...nobody bought it in relation to the Military Bowl and we ain't...yeah I said ain't...buying it now.

Wish I could...the game is the same day that my 12 year-old daughter goes back to school. Can't go to a game w/o my little buddy...sat on the couch with her and her cold/flu last night (we vacillated about heading up all week..it was a good thing we didn't go) and watched the game while monitoring this site, twitter and the NIU fan board (they make us look like pikers when it comes to whiny bitching). I don't think I've had more fun watching a game...

It's a 3.5 hour commercial for BGSU on National TV...it's an educational opportunity for the team, band and cheerleaders...it's a competitive advantage to go to a bowl because you have additional practices going on when recruiting and those extra practices help you into the next year. in these tough times for the university, cost transparency is exactly the right thing to do. I also suspect that we won't lose money on a bowl game--but let's see the figures.

and yes, alums do follow academics. alums like me care about faculty cutbacks that may affect my son's classes at BGSU. We also care about ever-rising general fees.
a bowl game is a great reward for the team, but an "educational opportunity"?... lol, cmon. nope, it's just one more football game (and if we end up playing somebody like Arkansas State, not a very meaningful one).
The meaningful game was the one we just won. a job well done!
