We might be able to do it in our bowl game. If we end up playing Pittsburgh, I like our chances.kdog27 wrote:The way we played at Mississippi State gives me hope that I didn't have before that we can play with and eventually beat middle of the pack BCS teams.

Re: Urban vs Clawson
I agree with hammb..Meyer has changed his values to fit the corrupt culture of "big time" college football. Clawson rebuilt our team on the field and changed the culture academically and behaviorally. When you look at it that way...Clawson

Its Urban and it's not close for me. I don't need my head football coach to be likable he just has to win. We are not picking a school teacher or counselor or whatevs. This is the head football coach.

Being likeable has nothing to do with it....demonstrating a level of character that can make you feel proud about how you won does. Meyer has become the kind of coach that looks the other way while his players run around like idiots and criminals. We had something like that here and I don't want to see it again...

Re: Urban vs Clawson
This. I have no problem with Urban's personality or anything. I have a problem with a guy that flips the double bird to the stadium and national tv audience playing the next game. I have a problem letting a rb that is only out of jail because his punch missed be the star of my team. I have a problem letting my star te run around with gangs and apparently enjoy the occasional drive by shooting. Etc, etc.Flipper wrote:Being likeable has nothing to do with it....demonstrating a level of character that can make you feel proud about how you won does. In short I have a problem with being willing to destroy any pretense that we're about education rather than being a football factory. When Urban was here he ran a clean ship. If I could have that Meyer back I'd take him over clawson 100% of the time and agree it's not close.
But with the way Meyer runs his program nowadays? No thanks.
Re: Urban vs Clawson
Yeah I still don't get why that OL was in the championship game. He blatantly and publicly insulted a Big Ten team and all its fans and got rewarded by playing in the Big Ten championship. I've got a nagging feeling if he was from any other team the commissioner would have banned him from the game. No way Hoke, Dantonio, O'Brien, Fitzgerald, or Kill (among others) would let a player who makes a move like that represent the team in the title game.

Saw on twitter today that while not suspended the O-linemen for OSU who did that actually never got into the game. Not sure if that is true or not just came across it today

I didn't pay close enough attention to the game to know for sure. I watched it, but was playing around on the computer at the same time. Last I heard was Urban said that he wasn't going to start and that he'd see where they went from there.BGFalconfromCincy wrote:Saw on twitter today that while not suspended the O-linemen for OSU who did that actually never got into the game. If Urban actually cared about the image of the school/team he would have suspended him immediately for the game and he wouldn't have been allowed to dress. If he didn't get into the game, I'm glad, but I still think he should have disciplined him by not letting him dress for the game.
Either way the examples over Urban's past 5 years are plentiful; he's joined the ranks of all the other college football factory coaches. Winning at all costs is more important than anything else; that's not how I want the athletic programs to operate at my university.

I think you are overstating things here. This is how college football works. You want to win big then you can't be a nice guy

Re: Urban vs Clawson
How can anyone pick Clawson? He's a good coach, but Urban Meyer is arguably the best coach of the last decade, in his first year we went 8-3, next year 9-3 and were ranked at one point. Then he made Utah into a national power for a short time, before winning two titles at Florida. BG if Urban never left would be at the level Boise has been at and would probably have won 5-6 MAC titles in this timeframe at least. Especially considering Ohio is such a recruiting hotbed, if a MAC school can get it going watch out

Saban is the best coach of the past decade, maybe all time in college football.

Hall didn't play. It was discussed a few times during the game.MarkL wrote:Yeah I still don't get why that OL was in the championship game. I think you're right...I had to "suffer" going with some OSU fanatics (along with my BG educated son in law), and thought they'd focused the camera on Hall and mentioned he hadn't played and possibley wouldn't due to his behavior...just not sure if he ever DID indeed get in or not.

Re: Urban vs Clawson
At one point one of the announcers said Hall might have played one series, but later he said Hall hadn't played. Whatever. I'm sure Meyer deserves some of the criticism he's getting, especially in the light of all of the arrests at Florida. But he seems to have done the right thing with Hall.
