If allowing players to abuse the rules of the NCAA and letting criminals play is the only way to win big then I'm quite fine NOT winning.

The fact that this crap goes on at all of these "football factory" schools is exactly why the sport of college football sucks nowadays. This is the mindset that lets known child molestors to remain in employ for decades. This is the mindset that apologizes for all minor NCAA rule infractions because "the rules just make no sense". This is the mindset that holds up rape investigations so long as college football seasons are going on.

I'd much rather be a BG and occasionally beat one of these big programs than join their ranks.

yes...I know the stock response to a post like hammb's is "they all cheat"....but absent any proof of that, I'm going to have to say "we don't". Hell, we self reported to the NCAA over a footbll recruit having a hotdog at a tailgate.

I'm sure Meyer deserves some of the criticism he's getting, especially in the light of all of the arrests at Florida. But he seems to have done the right thing with Hall.
No he didn't. The right thing would have been to publicly announce the suspension and then to hand the student a bus schedule and tell him that he better be at the game. He should not have been given the privilege of traveling with the team or of wearing the uniform for the game.

Just some of Urban's recruits and tactics-
A top JUCO wide receiver while at Florida by doggedly recruiting the player's girlfriend, a gymnast, to come to UF. This is a blatant violation of a basic NCAA rule forbidding football coaches from recruiting for other sports and also an infraction regarding frequency of contact.

He further would orchestrate a call between that player and Tim Tebow at the Heisman Trophy ceremony which is also a clear violation of NCAA rules.

He lied to a Michigan recruit about a conversation he had with UM coaches attempting to trick the player into believing the Michigan coaches felt the player would be better off at Florida. The conversation never took place.

Meyer told a top QB recruit (Jevan Snead, formerly at Texas, now at Ole Miss) that his only interest in scouting Tim Tebow was as a linebacker after promising the player he was the only quarterback the Gators were recruiting. Another lie.

The New York Times reported that a staggering 41 of the 121 players listed on Florida's 2008 national championship roster had either been arrested while at Florida or after leaving there.

Told the family of recruit Stefon Diggs that he wouldn’t let his son go to Florida because of significant character issues in the locker room.

Globe, you enjoy your "true Buckeye" coach. I bet Woody Hayes rolled over in his grave when he heard that OSU had hired Meyer. After all, what "true Buckeye" has an out clause in a contract that would allow him to go to the University of Michigan (contracts at BG and Utah contained outs with no penalty to go to OSU, Notre Dame, and Michigan)?
