I would bet building a program like that is one of his favorite things to do.MarkL wrote:Just a quick thought. I know WF would pay a lot, but would Clawson really want to go through all this building yet again and so soon after hitting this success? Why not stick around a few years and enjoy what he's built?

Re: Wake forest
The ACC is pretty terrible though, if you do the job right you can make a solid consistent 9-10 win team
Re: Wake forest
There are billboards posted in Winston Salem calling for Wellman to be fired. Clawson should want no part of that mess.
Re: Wake forest
PER SI:
Bowling Green's Dave Clawson is interviewing for the Wake Forest head coaching vacancy, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. Wake Forest officials planned to meet with Clawson in the Northwest Ohio area on Sunday afternoon.
Demon Deacons athletic director Ron Wellman attended Bowling Green's 47-27 blowout win over Northern Illinois in the MAC title game in Detroit on Friday night. The victory gave the school its first MAC football championship since 1992, and it spoiled the Huskies' BCS bowl chances.
The result also provided some momentum for Clawson's candidacy, as he led the Falcons to a 10-3 campaign in 2013 and has built a reputation as a meticulous program builder. Clawson and Ball State coach Pete Lembo are the favorites for the Wake Forest job. Wellman interviewed Lembo in the Muncie, Ind., area on Thursday. A decision is expected by Monday night.
Lembo has also been mentioned in connection with Connecticut opening, and he is expected to interview with Huskies' officials in Atlanta over the next few days.
The decision between Lembo and Clawson is a compelling one, as both found success in the MAC and in prior head coaching stints at smaller-division academic schools. (Clawson turned around programs at Fordham and Richmond; Lembo worked his way up through jobs at Elon and Lehigh.) Bowling Green will likely be the preseason favorite in the MAC entering 2014, as the Falcons are set to return eight players on offense. That should include sophomore quarterback Matt Johnson and sophomore running back Travis Greene, who rushed for a school-record 1,555 yards this season.
Clawson was pursued by Temple last year, but he decided to stay at Bowling Green. He was also interviewed for the Wisconsin job last year, ultimately finishing behind Gary Andersen.
Boise State officials reached out to Clawson within the past few days, but no interview has been set up.

GO BG!!!
Re: Wake forest
After looking around on other message boards, it was stated by someone that Lembo was "lowballed" on an offer and he rejected it. Obviously anyone can get on a message board and say whatever they want. Sometimes it's true, sometimes it's not at all, so who knows. Also saw a post that if it's Clawson it would likely be announced by Wednesday and if it's Lembo it would likely be sooner. So we wait and see.....
GO BG!!!

Has Clawson made any public comments on the subject? Apoligies if that info was already posted and I missed it.

He basically refused to comment when asked about it at the press conf. after the game...said he wanted to enjoy the win... Only possible clue was when he kiddingly said to stop praising Johnson so much as < "I have to deal with him for 2 more yrs.".
As I said this was said in a kidding manner...at least he's had the good sense NOT to repeat Urban's error of " I haven't finished the job here" etc., then was in Utah 2 days later.
I'm just hoping that BG will at least offer a significant raise, say to 500K, along with raises for his staff.... for an additional 200-250K or so, we just MIGHT be able to keep him. and most of his staff..But if he's going to get offers in the millions, who can blame him for wanting to ensure his family's well being?

My co-worker's daughter dances with their daughter and she is vehemently against them moving away from the area, so we'll see if his family has any pull in making him stay.Class of 61 wrote:Beaker wrote:Has Clawson made any public comments on the subject? Of course. 12 year old girl does not want to leave her friends .. However this will have no impact.. If the right school at the right price comes calling he's gone.. I'm not sure if it's wake but one of the big boys will come calling with over a million per year he's gone

Just talked with gabe Martin and asked if he had any idea about the clawson situation, he said I'd hear about it before he would. He also says his acl is coming along nicely. Good guy, polite and easy to talk to.
Re: Wake forest
Press Conference set for tomorrow morning at Wake Forest.
Re: Wake forest
My hope is ... Wake Forest is introducing Lembo tomorrow as the head coach. The Indianapolis Star is reporting that Lembo interviewed with Connecticut, so my hope is Wake Forest decided to make a move, offer him a large salary, and introduce him ASAP as the new head coach.

From my conversations with him, albeit a few years ago, I got that Clawson is a family man. I think his family will have a big impact on whether he stays or goes.sportydude1818 wrote:Of course. 12 year old girl does not want to leave her friends .. However this will have no impact.. Re: Wake forest
I'm hopeful that they picked Lembo, but I'm not optimistic. Clawson would be a good hire for them and he certainly deserves a big pile of cash. If I was him, I would let a few more dominoes fall this offseason and see if I could pull somethig better than Wake. That's a tough turnaround job. If he waited it out and possibly had a huge 2014 at BG, he might be looking at a top flight job at this time next year. Florida will almost certainly be looking for a replacement next year, for example.
