He had his shot to be a head coach. Sure it was a transition year but he showed what he can do. He started horribly. Mid season the team looked pretty good. But the HUGE concern is the final third of the season. His team quit on him, plain and simple. Not interested. I can't say that in enough ways.

In Fickell's defense - he didn't have his own people working on the sidelines with him. He had Tressell's people in there.

O$U put him in a bad spot from the beginning.

Agreed. He went 6-6 with a pretty good team and with players recruited by Tressel. Everyone at Ohio State wants him to take the job so they can both be rid of him and also criticize him more if he fails at BG. Its a lose-lose for the university.

I don't buy it. One - he had been on that staff for a long time. He knew everybody. Two - the team was clicking well for much of the season. Obviously things were working. It's a case of once the Urban Meyer is coming here distractions set in, the team quit. He couldn't handle distractions. Distractions happen all the time and he lost control of his team.

Not interested. No thank you.

Not that this is a rumor or anything, just an idea. Would there be anybody on the Penn State staff under Bill O'Brien that is head coach material? That staff has overachieved time and time again. Bill O'Brien has been fantastic there and he must have some great assistants if they keep their team playing at such a high level given all they have to deal with.

I'm gonna guess he makes more as a line coach at LSU than Clawson made as head coach at BG. Money is going to be a big issue if you go after any assistants from bigger schools, especially those in the SEC.
Dino Babers makes $175 K, look at his résumé.

Coached at Baylor and several other schools.

This would be quality minority hire. Not saying this is a must but it could be a plus.

Dustin Fox is all over twitter promoting Fickell. And I really don't care who Urban is promoting...let him worry about his swiss cheese D down in Cbus. Chris Kingston, please do NOT interview Fickell let alone hire the guy. We can do much better.

Mark,
Interesting topic about Penn State...

His defense was bad this year. I don't want a defensive coordinator with a bad defense. As far as I am concerned his year of coaching was a positive.

I tweeted Jack Carle to see if Scheier being named interim meant that the OC and DC were no longer in the mix. I will pass along the info when he clarifies.

MJ just tweeted something about "cleaning house" with an angry face. Hope we aren't going to get more bad news about other coaches this afternoon.

Perhaps he is just cleaning his pad and doesn't like doing it.

EMU is interviewing Dino Babers. To me, if a guy accepts an opportunity to interview with EMU, that's probably not somebody we want. We can do better.

According to Brian Sutton on Twitter, strength coach Hourigan is gone. Clawson talked very highly about him always. Jude A-B also said "Wake Forest ain't ready for Brandon Hourigan," on Twitter.
