Clawson just finished meeting and addressing the Wake Forest players, best of luck to him and sadly he is no longer an active part of BG football. He'll always be a Falcon though and I'll be rooting for him to do well.

Isn't that pretty much SOP when a coach goes? It might also be a sign that Elko ain't staying here....although Pinkel took all the recruiting film UT had with him to Missouri IIRC and Amstutz was the guy they hired.

That's no surprise, there are always a good number of recruits who will follow a coach if he switches jobs.

Clawson was informed yesterday of the decision and accepted immediately. Scheier was given notice last night by Kingston that he would be interim coach. As far as Scheier knows, the rest of the staff will be intact for the bowl game. Scheier also said he will enter his name in as a candidate for the head coach position.

If he's poaching BG recruits. He is going to struggle beating Florida State, Clemson, and Louisville.

Was Clawson actively looking for other jobs besides Wake Forest? I'm of the opinion that he should have stayed at Bowling Green for another year. Unless BG is getting killed by graduation and is striking while the iron is hot.

All I can say his he didn't take this decision lightly, but it made sense for him both professionally and personally. His parents live in North Carolina and its an opportunity for him and his family to be closer to them. He had an emotional meeting with the players this morning and told them it was a tough decision to make, but its the right one, and told the players to stay together, keep tight and don't let his departure change the course of the program. He genuinely cares about BG both as a university and within the community, and you can't fault the guy for doing what he did. I think any coach in his position needs to take what they can get as there are no guarantees a better position would have opened up next season. I think he accomplished what he wanted to at BG, and that was a MAC Championship, and for that I think we all should be thankful he was the coach here. He hit the ceiling with our program and now he's on to bigger and better things.

It's actually the best thing to do IMO. These recruits are heavily invested in the coach just about as much as the school. If they don't want to come here any more, I want to know now so we can plan accordingly.

Agreed, but perhaps there isn't a step up that would want him. What if he stayed in BG, there are massive injuries and the team under performs? He struck while the iron was hot and that's what you do.
