Is it me or did clawson sprint out of BG as fast as he could.. I mean win the Mac interview with wake on sunday and by Monday it's see u later and he's having a team meeting with wake. What does this say about how he really felt about BG ? Maybe this was his way of sticking the middle finger to all the people who were calling for his job after the Toledo game.
I knew he would go at some point but he really jumped without hesitation at the first job that came calling. I posted the wake thread so I knew he would be a target but I think that a few more dominoes will fall and he would have a pick of much better jobs.. Guess he wanted out in the worst way

He met with the players this morning and was crying when telling them about his decision. I'm pretty certain he didn't just pack up his stuff and go.

Agent? I don't think this was the case at all. Simply an opportunity that fit DC based on his background and WF probably wanted an answer ASAP. I don't think DC took the move lightly and most have indicated that the team meeting was emotional.

Imagine that your pay check is $15k every two weeks (I know, hard for me to imagine) but your new paycheck is $93k every two weeks with perks galore. I would look at my wife and family and make that decision pretty quickly.

After some thought, I think this was a perfect opportunity for DC.

Personally I think you are reading waaaaay too much into that. I don't care who you are, if someone waves a 5X pay raise in your face you are going to think LONG and hard about it. Read the article that has players quotes from the players meeting where Clawson addressed the team this morning. Clawson also made mentioned numerous times about what a special place BG was even in the postgame presser after the MACC Title game.

He did everything anyone could even ask him to do here at BG aside from going undefeated and going to a BCS game. Time for new challenges and opportunities for him and for Bowling Green. I for one would love to see Coach Scheier get the chance to interview for the full-time job. I have said that out of all 3 coordinators that we have on staff, I feel like he has the best qualities you look for in a Head Coach. Being around the program on a daily occurrence while I was a student gave me that impression.

If not, I do not know why everyone is so down on Fickell. I feel like being a Head Coach on a smaller scale like the MAC is what he could need. Correct me if I am wrong, which I could very well be, but I thought Fickell was Tressel's main recruiter. He has ties to this area so we wouldn't lose anything in recruiting, may even be better and comes in with the experience in working with a couple coaches with vastly different styles so I think he could be a guy that would come in and keep with that is going on here already and not try and change everything.

I trust in Chris Kingston to get us the right guy.

Or he looked at the job as being a great opportunity to work near his parents for a college with really high academic standards since he's done well working for schools with pretty high academic rankings in Fordham and Richmond...not to mention he'll be tapping into a similar geographic are that he recruited when he coached Richmond.

Whatever the motivation...he took this bus about as far as anyone since Doyt Perry, so I think he's earned the right to call his own shot.

I totally agree with you on the big boost on income. Pretty much all the power conference schools pay their HC's 7 figure salaries? There will be openings in 2014.

Any coach that sticks around a MAC school isn't a coach I want.

Any coach I want to keep long term, we cannot afford.

If our coaches don't have the drive to be the best of the best than it's unlikely they succeed. IF they do have that drive they'll bolt at the first opportunity to do so...as they should. Anything can happen in coaching. We could suffer a rash of injuries next year and take a step back through no fault of Clausen's. He may never see an opportunity like this again.

If the goal is to coach at the highest level a MAC job is not just a stepping stone. It's the first stone on a long trip. You're not going from the MAC straight to Florida. Maybe Wake is his dream job? I don't know. But it's a definite step up from BG.

One thing that's forgotten right now is that Clawson has a history of building a successful program but taking several years to do so. Wake Forest is probably the perfect situation for him because they're likely to give him 4-5 years to build the program and achieve what can be achieved there. This is better than going to an Illinois or Purdue who is never likely to win anything, but will fire you in 2-3 years because they think they can.

Wake is a very nice step up for Clawson and if he succeeds there he'll have the opportunity for bigger things. Personally, I can think of far worse places to spend the rest of my days than NC. He's only a few hours away from the Outer Banks, and I'm not sure there's a better place on earth.

Utah wasn't viewed as a huge step up from BG when Meyer left...other than the cash. In fact most people thought "Utah? WTF?" because Meyer had been viewed as a possibility for Michigan State

In these situations it is in everyone's best interests (school, players, coach, the next coach, recruits) for it to be quick and fast moving for a variety of reasons.

I'm sure if Gary Blackney had that Duke offer to do over again in '93 or '94 he'd take it.

Wonder if the rest of the Clawson family wanted to move? Coach probably said the right things and motivated them to start packing.
