Bob,
GO on 247.com, Rivals.com or Scout.com and you'll see a list of the kids who HAD verballed to BG... According to 247, we're down to 14 kids, from a high of 16 IIRC....no longer show the WR from Shaker Hts. who supposedly "de committed" awhile back...(though someone close to the situation had indicated he was still probably coming..but this before Dave made the big move)
Also our overall rating of the class on 247 went from 2nd in the MAC to 8th and 102nd overall...the Shaker kid was rated 3*so that would account for part, but we've obviously lost a couple/few more.
Some of the guys made a valid point...we don't have to worry about Dave taking kids to WF as much as we have to worry about other MAC schools jumping in and "re-recruiting" these kids..We don't want to lose kids to our own rivals in the MAC if possible. ](*,)
Education our Challenge, Excellence our goal. (look it up)

Shaker kid committed to Cincinnati.

This is from Scout...

A month after reopening his recruitment, Shaker Heights (OH) wide receiver Odell Spencer has committed to Cincinnati. Spencer pledged to Bowling Green over the summer, be decided to open things up last month.

Shaker Heights (OH) wide receiver Odell Spencer has found his school, nearly one month after reopening his recruitment. After previously being committed to Bowling Green, Spencer is headed to Cincinnati.
"I took an official visit to Cincinnati over the weekend and I have committed to the Bearcats," Spencer stated. "I started looking for another school in early November, and I know I have the right school. I have friends there in Shaq Washington and Jeremy Graves, so I'm thrilled."

"Cincinnati is one of my dream schools, so I'm very happy to get this over with," he added. "I was offered by Washington State last week, and Kentucky came to my school to offer me today, but my recruitment is over. There is no school I want to hear from at this point, and I'm done."

Spencer recently completed an impressive senior season at Shaker Heights, and he is in line for a bump in the rankings.

Cincinnati is recruiting him as a cornerback, but he could also play wide receiver for the Bearcats.

This is precisely why Miami did what they did earlier in the season. They had their coach locked and loaded as soon as possible to start the poaching. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Eastern Michigan hasn't had a winning record since 1995 and their incompetence persists by not having their own process sewn up by now.

We've been speculating on Clawson leaving for weeks. He interviewed for two jobs last year so the identification of candidates should be over. Get them in, hear them out, make a choice and don't let HR bureacracy stand in the way.

This game is about players. A subpar recruiting class can torpedo a program and we needn't look further than our own in 2002 as evidence. Decisiveness is paramount.

While I definitely understand the need to act quick and not end up with a "throwaway" class, I think it's more important to make the right move and make sure your 2015-16 classes are also the best they can be rather than getting somebody in quickly to start working on 2014.

This is where it's imperative that the AD has a list of candidates ready to go at all times. I'm hopeful that Kingston has his guys in mind already. I'm also hopeful that he's got interviews scheduled for Orr's job the day after the season ends.

This is where a guy like Scheier and or Monroe keeping in contact with recruits and being retained is important, especially if this drags out a little bit. Can't afford to throw away a class. Especially if a coach is successful (which he should be) and bolts in 2-3 years. Then you're in the same spot in a short time.

There is also an element of getting recruits from other schools. Lets say we name Tenn OC Head Coach. He has a list of recruits who he had relationships with that they just couldn't offer, He will also hire guys who have similar guys. This is how we got Matt Schilz.

I don't think anybody thought the 2009 class was a throwaway class ... it did contain a current starter for New England.

I still wish Ali Alaboody would have worked out. If nothing else, hearing his name on the PA would have been awesome.

I know that how many stars you have in no way automatically means that you are going to be good, but Western appears to be putting together a heck of a class. 27 commits; 12 of them 3* on Rivals and 15 of them 3* on 247. Double the amount of any other team in the conference and more than I have seen any team in the MAC ever have.

No one said 2009 was a bad class. Clawson had also already been hired and he was able to make visits from December 16th-January 15th in 2009. If BG doesn't hire a coach by Sunday there will be no face to face contact with BG's recruits until the middle of January.

Although, this seems to be a good sign.
