Elko does not care about " finishing the job" he's gone at recruiting for wake as we speak.. He did what he needed to do. Id be shocked if he coaches in the bowl game. He has nothing to gain and everything to lose by coaching the game.. If Pitt lights us up for 40 points and he's coaching it will diminish all the great things he did.. He's gone and he's not coming back

So much for advocating for Elko. :x

This is a wonderful opportunity for Coach Scheier. He's smart, a good recruiter and radiates intensity. Two years ago when Kevin Sumlin left for Texas A&M they promoted Tony Levine, the Special Teams Coordinator. John Harbaugh of the Ravens got that job based off his work as a special teams guy.

From today's Blade....

As for recruiting players who have verbally committed to Bowling Green, Clawson hopes they honor their commitment to the Falcons.

“I would never encourage a player to de-commit,” he said. “I really hope that’s a bridge we don’t have to cross. … I think it’s wrong to recruit guys who committed to your previous institution.”

It could be that the context of any conversation he had with recruits was "hey I'm leaving...I hope you'll still consider BG as a school"
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

Flip, you may well be correct, but I do know he has called, and it has caused some concern with the recruit. I hope you are correct, because that is what I expect from him.

At others schools I've heard that it's kosher for the AD to call the verbals and reassure them that the ship is on the right track. I wonder if Kingston will do this.

I would be shocked if he's not trying to poach BG's best recruits. It's his job to get the best players he can. Now, if I'm a Wake fan, I would be worried our new head coach is calling MAC recruits and telling us he is going to be able to compete in a division with, Florida State, Clemson, and Louisville.

I also won't be surprised if we hire a guy like DJ Durkin and he calls some guys committed to Florida and tells them to follow him and that they'll be able to play right away instead of riding the bench for 2 years.

None of these 18 year olds are bound by anything. Some committed because they love the school, like the facilities, the teammates they'll be joining. Some commit because they like the head coach and or their position coach. I don't see anything wrong with any school contacting them or a new BG coach contacting other players.

I've been told that Elko and Ruggiero WILL be coaching at the LCPB. They are doing recruiting for Wake but will come back to coach, that is good news.

I think YES. The players will have something to prove... i think they will unite together and beat PITT
I agree...the players will go all out and bust ass to win this game. This is for them.

The bigger concern is other MAC schools now reaching out to them with Clawson departing. That could become a major concern.

So... Coach E and Coach R along with the strength guy will be/are headed to WF, and Coach S is interm coach for the Bowl....what is the story on the other Assts????

What is their future?

Mark Carney Wide Receivers Coach
John Hunter Running Backs/Recruiting Coord.
Bill Durkin Offensive Line
Nick Monroe Secondary
Larry McDaniel Defensive Line
Rob Neviaser Linebackers

As stated above, Elko and Ruggiero will be coaching for BG in the bowl game. The other coaches are still intact as of now, but I would imagine they either will be joining DC or will be let go.

It is common for a coach or two to stick around for some continuity. I'm hoping Monroe and Carney stick around.

I agree, because it keeps us from avoiding a skeleton staff for the bowl. It feels strange to feel bummed they are leaving but happy they could be with us for the bowl, bit I would rather it be that than the alternative.

I would guess John Hunter may stay as he is us a class guy, a BG alum, RECRUITING coord, and recruits and from Detroit. Made for the BG staff. One of the other oft mentioned names people want, has not performed well on the recruiting side in his time at BG.
